Hi all,

Firstly, am I correct in thinking that my 1991 Jap Spec import initially was supplied with a master key fitting all locks on the car & a service key fitting drivers door & ignition only??

Secondly, as my local Nissan dealership is only staffed by morons, who don't seem to be able/bothered to find out anything definative for me, before I call Nissan GB for advice, does anyone know if you can order a replacement pre-cut master key from Nissan by quoting them your chassis & model number???

The reason I ask, is I got my car with only 1 key, what I assume is the service key as it only fits the ignition and drivers door, therefore having a copy cut still doesn't give me a fully functioning key!!

Any advice appreciated!!

As an aside, I ordered a key blank from Nissan, cost me £12 and change, they cut this for me and it wouldn't touch the locks at all!! they then cut a second one, which still wouldn't!!!, so a local locksmith cut me one which worked perfectly!! (only £4!)

When I took the key back to Nissan, the moronic (16 year old??) working there told me I could only have a refund of £7 to allow for handling!!, anyway I quoted sale of goods act to him and mentioned merchantable quality etc... his jaw fell through the floor and he immediately gave me a full refund, obviously not used to anyone questioning the dealers sharp practice then!! but doesn't it make you wonder how many people they must rip off!!

Bye for now

Hi,

I am in the same position, with a jap spec and 1 key. So last weekend i went to the local locksmith ship and got another cut for £5.

Only trouble is that it opens the car fine but the cat1 cobra alarm system does not deactivate on the central locking (is this normal?).

So even though i can get in the car, if i loose the alarm fob/key - i will still be shafted because i cant turn the alarm off. Though i do have what looks like an imobiliser key (i have know idea where i can insert it

Anyone else know the likely place the special key should go - and would it deactivate the alarm too??

Thanks

Barry

I have a cobra cat 1 as well. Is there a long black stick with a thick metal point on the key fob? This needs to make contact with the imobiliser/alarm eye, if that makes any sense. These are individualy coded. When mine was fitted it was into the centre trim. It looks like a small plastic button with a small metal disc/socket on one edge.

Regards
