bird Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 This is the second time it's happened so I'm curious if anyone else has had the same issue. Basically, the horn randomly just started blaring away. Hasn't been used for a week or so. And joi wasn't in it pressing the horn button lol Quote Membership No 0780 INSURANCE GOOFA Datascan, Conzult, ECUTalk and a few others I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

bird Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 Ok done a good few targa drain tech threads but last week with a poorly zed showing lots of electrical issues and auto gearbox issues it all looked very connected and with the trusty camera on hand all was soon revealed. The auto box was not changing gear at all well, first to second was a huge shift at way too high revs, a previous check on the ConZult revealed a very high reading on the TPS ( throttle position sensor ) that could not be altered what ever adjustment was made to the tps, this would cause the gearbox to be receiving conflicting information, the car horn was also not working from the steering wheel but would intermittent start sounding when the car was unattended. So passenger side, very quickly found the targa drain was detached and had been allowing rainwater to flow all over the main connector blocks in that area, pulling the connectors apart revealed green and corroded pins. A very difficult area to work in and a sore neck is guaranteed the next day!! after cleaning the pins with WD40 and the air line blower I sorted the drain pipe so the same issue will not occur and a test showed we now had a good tps reading and a smooth auto box once more. more ........ Right, been out there to have a look and as you suggested, the targa drain is detached and the connectors are a bit wet. Not massively mind but there is some green stuff on the brown connector. Anyway, although I can see the targa drain pipe, I can't see the bit where it goes back out. I was wondering, is it behind the connector block as in picture 2? I'm busy trying to get the top bolt from that out and it's a right pain in the butt. Just thinking I don't wanna bother if it's not even behind there. bird Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 These bolts / bracket. Top bolt is tough to get to. Quote Membership No 0780 INSURANCE GOOFA Datascan, Conzult, ECUTalk and a few others I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:
Bones28 Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Yep real pig to get at, I used a very small ratchet drive. You really got to get you head down the footwell and a torch, I did my back in, as a temp fix I found a small piece of garden hose fitted on the old targa drain pipe and securely through to the wing, taking out the black tube. bird Posted February 14, 2016 Author Posted February 14, 2016 I can't even see the bit the pipe connects too. That's why I was wanting to check I'm not blind. I've got the top bolt half out then gave up as I was trying to do it with a normal spanner as I couldn't get my ratchet in. Plus it's really cold where I am, been snowing and hail stoning all day so my fingers were killing. Once the connector base is moved forward, you will be able to feel the two pipes mine were an inch apart from each other. Very hard to see and again a one handed job. So, managed to get that bolt out, only had about 10 minutes of light.i can feel the tube that comes down from the tareas, but I can't see the outlet part, or feel it for that matter. I'm sure it's there somewhere but I'm guessing the tube is too short to reach. If that's the case, do I buy a new tube or can I use a silicone one light I use for all the vac pipes in the engine bay? As I've got a few of them lying around. Quote Membership No 0780 INSURANCE GOOFA Datascan, Conzult, ECUTalk and a few others I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:
Bones28 Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 As I said I used a piece of garden hose to get me out of trouble, the drain pipe just fitted in the end. You need to extend the pipe, look for targa drain pipe there are pics on this site. JeffTT Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) Locate the end of the pipe as in the first picture below. Now look at the two pictures you can see the outlet is behind the cross brace, you may have sound deadening material hiding it. Follow the link below of how to fix the drivers side pipe its the same for the passenger, basically remove the A pillar cover and you will see the pipe, disconnect it from the targa drain outlet, now you can pull some extra pipes down so the bottom reaches and can be dealt with. Now you fit a pipe connector or some form of extension to the pipe so it reaches the targa drain outlet, its easier to do there. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?158042-Drivers-targa-pipe-fix&highlight=targa+drains Edited February 15, 2016 by JeffTT Quote

I found the outlet bit. As you suggested, was behind a load of sound proofing stuff. Anyway, got it out easily enough. Pulled the pipe down a little to do it and the problem came when olive been pushing the pipe back up. It's gone up a little too far and now it won't push back down. Feels like it's hitting something. I'm sure your bones28 might have done that before. Any idea how you get it back down? Or is it a dash out thing now? Anyway, the pipe is plugged in to the external thing. I've cleaned the connectors too. So, now I just need a joining pipe of some kind and stick it back together :-) Something like this maybe... http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=131711097258 Quote Membership No 0780 INSURANCE GOOFA Datascan, Conzult, ECUTalk and a few others I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:
