Hi,

I have a META alarm in my Z that's always worked fine.

Last week the zappers that unlock the doors and deactivate the alarm stopping performing!

I got into the car and was able to switch off the alarm by putting the zapper very close to the alarm control box. I've replaced the batteries in the zapper but this hasn't solved the problem.

Can anyone suggest any thing else that maybe causing the problem. Would a problem with the car battery cause this (and the problem with my HICAS warning light - see other message).

Cheers,

Andy

My mate had a similar problem with his van. The immobiliser stopped working from his remote control. He replaced the batteries in it and still nothing. He left it for a couple of days and then found his battery had died. He charge it up fully and the immobiliser work again.

If seems as though batteries loose there charge a lot quicker as it starts to get cold.

Some remote alarms have an aerial wire (usually brown in colour, and never connected to anything). If you have one of these you may want to reroute it so it is in a more central location under the bonnet.

META ARE

SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT!

I bought my car with a Meta immobiliser installed so I thougt I would get the alarm to go with it and make it a CAT1.

Fine it opens the doors and locks it and I have only had 4 or 5 false alarms.

However, my alarm did not go off on the 2 attempts at breaking into my car. I got in the boot and climbed into the back seats before the alarm went off.

I was charged £220 for the alarm + £50 for the motor for the other door to lock costing £270 in total then I found I could have got a Taod 606I CAT 1 System which is a lot better than the META for less than what it cost me for the META CAT 2 Alarm.

The boot sensor stopped working after 3 months, I dont know if my bonnet sensor has ever worked. The car is suppoesed to lock itsself after 5 mins and it doesnt.

But to top it all off, META head office dont seem to give a shit about it.

Thanks guys,

Can you give me the contact details for the META office in the UK?

All I can find is Italian stuff.

I'll try recharging the battery too.

Cheers,

They are quite quick with replies to you, and where very helpful when I was enquiring about where to get one and what to get.

But once I wanted to complain they kept handing me off. I sent 3 emails of complaint and I go no reply to them.

I had a Meta on my 200sx. Had it for 4 years and had no problems with it at all. They're pretty good value for money in my opinion.

I think most of the problems are down to the installers rather than the alarms themselves.

I think it is, but the cost for a CAT2 alarm was dearer than a better CAT1 system.

I think it is the installers, but the installers didnt want to know about my problems and then META didnt want to know, even though I told them that the people who did the alarm 3 times tried to fix the problems and when I got it back was exactly the same, which means they didnt test it after they said they changed it. :(

As I work in a TVR garage which all have META systems I would agree with Stuart. If I was you I would rip out the META system and drop-kick it into the nearest skip!

I work just down the road from David Hendry (TVR) so I wonder if it's worth me going to see them for some help. I really don't want to have to fork out for a new alarm!

Cheers,

There are META engineers all round the country. Email META and ask for your nearest one.

Not sure if this applies to you but if the people who installed it also supplied it then your contract is with them so they are the ones who should be sorting your problem out. If that means ripping it out and fitting a new one then so be it. It is not your job to go to the manufacturer unless you bought it direct.

I know, what my problems was, I took my car back 3-4 times to fix problems, ranging from boot sensor faulty, bonnet sensor faulty (and still is) car not locking itself, and have interior panels in the passengers footwell and drivers footwell where the panels where getting in the way of my pedels. Yet they said they didnt go near that area, even though they would have to get to the drivers side to link the alarm to the immobiliser and the passenger side to wire the door sensor up and he stood there an lied to me. The fact that the bonnet sensor has never worked and on the occations I have told them about it, they say they have fixed it, but when I get home its not. Which means they where bone idle and dont test after installation. The fact that they didnt put the automatic locking on because they said the alarm keeps going off when you wash the car with the alarm on keeps setting it off, yet the noise of a screwdriver being ripped through my door and the sound and shock of the handle being smashed didnt set it off, and the atempt at getting in though my boot didnt set it off, but they say its working perfectly and woundnt tocuh my car again untill it has a "REAL PROBLEM"

When I contacted Meta they didnt seem one bit interested about the fact thier official alarm fitters where doing a bone idle job, and didnt give a shit that my alarm doesnt work correctly and they fitters refuse to do anything about it.

Thats why I emailes Meta.

Get onto trading standards or tell the company you want it taking out and a refund. You are perfectly within your rights to do it.
