Hi all,

Ever since I replaced a front head light bulb at the weekend the HICAS warning light stays on for the first 5 minutes of driving the car.

Coincidently the weather got very cold at the same time.

Does anyone know why my warning light may be on? Is it dangerous to drive at the moment?

Cheers,

Andy

Hi - I've just noticed that the light comes on when cornering too so that sounds likely.

Sorry to sound dense but how do I check the levels?

Also what do I use to top them up?

Cheers,

Andy

You use the red steering fluid stuff.

Dont know what type but ask your local car shop they will know.

The steering fluid is located near the HICAS electrics and pump, which is on the left hand side a green resovour near the suspention turret. Open the lid and you can see the fluid. There is a level measuring thing on the inside of the lid which never works, so just add some fluid into it and dont let the level rise too much.

It's Dexron II type auto transmission fluid (think I've spelt it write! ;))

Most brands do the different specs of fluid.

I know because I bought about 15 litres of the stuff last year with my power steering hose leak!

It expands a huge amount with temperature so the cold mornings make it worse.

Brilliant - many thanks.

Yep that's the correct spelling it's made by castrol. Dexron TQ II

Yep - i had the same thing. SUPER HICAS Light staying on.

Got it topped up at my local Nissan garage for free with ATF as they say, and they even gave me a free bottle of the stuff for future!! :)

I may even be tempted to take my Zed there for some work if they carry on like that....

A friend of mine power steering pump or motor went on his Escort and Halfords charged an arm and leg to replace it and even billed him for the fulid they replaced. 2 days later he took it back because it was pouring out fluid everywhere and actuall emptied it. Halfords fitter a faulty unit but when he took it down for them to look at, not fix, they would give him any fluid even though its thier fault it leaked.
