Hi further to a previous post anyone got any ideas about my Jap import TT the power cuts at 125mph not violently or anything real softly like a controled ignition cut.The boost remains at max (stock) but 125mph is the max speed, releasing the go pedal and dropping 5 mph restores full power till 125mph and cut again.I know Japs are restricted (had one before although that had a Veilside chip and loads of go power 160mph+) but thought standard limit was 112 mph? is it poss it is de-limited but not very well also any contacts on a chip ? Or as a short term cure can get a UK spec ecu any thoughts? Help its driving me mad

Jeff,

Sounds very much like a speed limiter. While you're doing 125, can you put your foot on the clutch and rev higher ? (Or, if it's an auto, can you drop to 3rd and still hit the problem?).

Assuming so, there's an HKS unit (speed defencer????) available I think and I'm sure Johnny can sort you out.

Otherwise, it's another chip / ECU. I wouldn't recommend a switch to a UK one. There are other differences between the Jap & UK models and the UK ECU wouldn't be suitable.

If you want a relatively cheap option, and if you can bear the hard work on the phone which others seem to be suffering, it wouldn't take long for Pete R at SE to produce a chip with the speed limiter removed if that was all you wanted changed. I don't know what the cost would be but it might be the cheapest way to go. You'd have his labour time (I'm sure he knows where the limiter is so not great - I'd guess at an hour) plus the cost of having your ECU socketed.

This would probably work out similar in cost to the separate unit but it has the advantage of opening up the door to other chip upgrades - either SE, Jim Wolf, or any others which fit the standard ECU.
