young300lover Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Hi everyone, long time since i have been on the site but thought no better place to ask. I am going to look at a zed this weekend but insurance is proving a bit tricky. Was hoping to get a classic policy for it but first ireland have told me it doesnt qualify for a classic policy with them. Who are you all insured with? Thanks Adam Quote
dutchgold92 Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 How old are you and the car? Anecdotally I've heard that Autoline will do a classic policy in RoI once the car is 15 years old, but they may still say it doesn't qualify if it's a Jap import :glare: You'll most likely need to be over 25 for any classic policy, and most require the car to be over 20 years old. I'm with ARB through First Ireland but the premium is ridiculous (about €3,300). The cost difference in insuring TT vs NA is insignificant, but an Irish car would probably be a lot cheaper (good luck finding one). Quote
Gaz 300 Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Good to see you back Adam and good luck on the insurance as it can be very difficult for young drivers in ROI Quote
stephenk Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I'm with footman James I don't know if they can help you Quote
Alic Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I am not the one driving mine but when i did get an insurance quote (age 17) it was at 4.5 grand, which is reasonable as its about the same as a 4 door sedan 2l. Quote
dutchgold92 Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Quotes in Britain aren't really applicable here. Sadly, our system is even worse. Quote

First ireland, campions and carole nash all say the underwriters are refusing to take a zed on as new business. Not looking too promising at the moment Quote

young300lover Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Autoline based up north? Havent heard of them before so worth a phonecall. Axa have a tendancy to throw mad quotes at me no matter what car i have Quote
dutchgold92 Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 (edited) Autoline based up north? Havent heard of them before so worth a phonecall. Axa have a tendancy to throw mad quotes at me no matter what car i have Yeah I've heard good things about Autoline classic, even for cars like this. AXA pretty much told me to **** off and come back when I'm 30, though that was for a normal policy on a Z. They covered my dad on it for no extra cost. They're gobshites though in fairness - gave my missus the cheapest quote by a longshot on a provisional license, but wanted to double to price to add me, while I'm driving a Z myself and already named on another AXA policy for free! Where are you in Dublin? I'm in D15. Not too many of us! Edited January 6, 2016 by dutchgold92 Quote
Alic Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Footman James are good I don't think they stretch to Ireland, only to northern ireland Quote
