Despite sub zero temperatures of the brass monkey variety the cooling fan on my Zed is on almost all of the time.

 

Like a trip to the corner shop and back and its on!

 

The temperature needle is a little high too, heater is working fine though.

 

The coolant level is okay having recently changed it and put fresh antifreeze in.

 

Anyone any ideas? is it the thermostat stuck open / shut?

is it anything to do with the temp sensor sending dodgy signals to the fan? or something else?

 

any advice greatly appreciated

No this is not the fan driven by the fan belt, this is the electric fan that comes on intermitently usually in the Summer when stuck in traffic jams on a red hot day to assist engine cooling.

isnt there a problem related to the temperature sensor for this one? try searching the archives, iirc it shows up on the ECU error codes.

The fan driven by the fan belt is the only cooling fan you got, unless you include the one for the aircon. The fan belt drives the pulley and the fan blades float independently of the pulley and are operated by a clutch mechanism when needed.

 

Ususally a permanently "on" fan points to a defective/loose temp sensor - the yellow connector on the metal coolant pipe behind the rad. Clean, tighten or replace the screw in sensor, the connector or both. Cheap.
