Well I sold a second hand carbon fibre boot spoiler for another make of car that I was given....

It retails new for over $1000 in the US and £600+ in the UK..

I sold it in "superb" condition as it had no marks when I sent it out, checked, polished and nice and shiny.... for his offer of £250 delivered.... my buy it now price was £275 +£20 delivery

Today I get an email to say the carbon fibre centre piece has clouding in it and he sent some out of focus / blurry photo's. Then he suggested I refund £50 to refurbish the carbon fibre or he will return it??

Is it me or is this extortion?

I told him to send it back as the photo's he sent are no good, so I could assess the mark. He also claims it is rough in that area, yet I polished it and it was smooth and shiny with no marks......

My wife thinks he has put something on it and marked it..... but I will have to see when it arrives back....

Now I need to find the money to refund this as I got an unexpected bill last week and used this to pay it as I thought this was done and dusted......

This is just what I needed.....

Any ideas as I can see this becoming a big problem.....

Good luck

As Bri said , ignore him and take a negative feedback if you have to, ebay is nothing like it used to be years ago, its now full of sheisters out for a quick buck, fook em all i say :tt2:

Problem is nowadays is if he lodges a claim and ebay do as they usually do and just rule in the other persons favour I get bad feedback, lose the item and they just refund them anyway....

So I have told him to return it for inspection.... at least that way I can see what has happened and I get the item back....

Also today I found out out one seller has done me for £60 of fake merrell shoes that I returned when the started falling apart and they have now not replaced or refunded them....

First set I bought from another seller were delivered 'Near your address' .... Ebay's wording after they ruled the seller had fulfilled their obligation by sending the item even though the courier used a fake signature and delivered it somewhere near my house apparently, but was unsure where about.... And signed it Ken.... then first 3 letters of my road name strangely and I also have no neighbours called Ken in my close... £54.99 lost....

So now I have no shoes and £114.99 out of pocket...... Ebay is now not fit for purpose.......

on the spoiler issue, the fooker will probably damage it now anyway before he sends it back, could you try the "oops, really sorry, must have been the postman, purely for goodwill and without blame" offer him £30 back, not right and would kill me, but easier maybe

Nice idea, but I am too stubborn........ lol

I have told him to return it, if it gets damaged on it's return to me then he will have to sort out a claim for the damage....:innocent:

If I find it isn't damaged I have proof to ebay that he is trying it on....

I didn't offer a refund, but worded it that he can send it back for me to inspect it.... No fault then he can have it back plus the return postage cost....

spent all night thinking how to play this..... lol

When did you originally sell the spoiler, Russ?

I sold it last week...... He only received it yesterday and messaged me late afternoon.... so he did let me know within 24hrs of receiving it...

Just can't understand how it can have clouding just from posting it....?

He did say the bubble wrap was wet. I asked him if it is on the top coat or in the weave, he said he can't tell....

If it were me I would have tried to polish it and see if it was a smear.... I am guessing it is finger marks from when I packaged it.... but will wait to see....

These are the pic's I was sent ....

spoiler2.jpg This one looks like finger marks to me?

spoiler1.jpg Looks out of focus to me and I can't see any clouding?

Do What i do with the chancer nonces...as soon as one appears i take all my cards off paypal and that leaves them no way of extracting false payments when they see fit. Had one recently when i sold a drill,he said the lithium batt was goosed and wanted his money back..i said send the drill back with the SAME battery as i always keep seriel numbers for them, still waiting after weeks:sneaky2: plus as a double stinger to his plans i sercurity paint the cartridge screws so they cant swap the cells too. As Graham has said ebay is finnished now with respects to these chancers and iff you pick up the odd negative feedback just dont worry at all.

My little side business as a HiFi dealer is done on eBay and touch wood I haven't really had any major issues.

Personally I would ask for some hi res pictures of the marks and failing that, the return of the product for further inspection as Russ has done.

If however you really don't want it back, offer him the refund cost of some decent cutting solution and a microfibre cloth, no more hassle.

I do agree with the general consensus that eBay is a shit place now due to alot of scum sucking shit bags trying to shaft others which is a real shame to honest sellers like myself who are just trying to make a little extra cash.

As Bri said , ignore him and take a negative feedback if you have to, ebay is nothing like it used to be years ago, its now full of sheisters out for a quick buck, fook em all i say :tt2:

Cheers everyone....... just waiting to get it back and check the condition....

I will update when it arrives with me and I get a look and some pics....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

probably eyed it up on his car and didnt like the look so looking for an excuse to send it back. Just hope he doesnt cause damage to it on purpose just to send it back to you. If it was done in transit, normally the seller is the one ebay will blame as it was not "sufficiently packaged" ...... a losing battle unless you do as Znut says.

Hi Batman, That is why I insured it for £300 when I sent it out.... just in case....

I thought the same thing about changing their mind when they see it on the car..... As they are responsible for it's safe return and the buyer said they could get it refurbished for £50 then if it turns up damaged it will be down to them to claim on their insurance...?

Anything more than clouding on the topcoat and it must have been them or return courier.....?

So will see what it looks like on return.....

cheers everyone for the input.....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

When it arrives back you can try to claim on your original delivery insurance you took out, they will normally ask for pictures of the damage etc, but as an ex employee of a big delivery company, i know that this is where they normally try on the old 'it wasnt suffeciently packaged' speech. but as its possible water damage you should be fine if thats what the clouding is.. but yeh as you have already asked for the item back its best to assess the damage first then make the decision. but i think as youve accepted a return you will have to refund the ebay buyer and its down to you and courier company to sort out about the damage.

Well the item arrived back with me and has NO marks in the carbon fibre at all.... no white clouding as I checked under various lighting....

Only thing were greasy finger marks that I polished off with some finishing polish and Mini / BMW oem wax.... now gleaming!!

Told the buyer who said "Don't make me out to be stupid! I know how to clean finger prints off, I want a full refund!"

I then pointed out that I had photographed the spoiler being as described "superb condition"

He then said the panel it is bolted to was not white but cream.... I then pointed out it is BMW "Pepper White", so in fact white and as described and he hadn't asked what white it actually was prior to purchasing it!

I then asked if he wanted the spoiler returned to him and if so he agreed to this being the end of the matter?

He asked for me to return the spoiler to him again.

Now sent it back to him, pointing out it had cost me a further postage cost. I take it that by asking for me to return it to him he is accepting the end of the matter, but not holding my breath!

I can see this escalating to an ebay complaint as he changed his mind and is now just trying for a refund after buying it......

Now given up with ebay selling for the moment.....

Is all of this dialogue in the form of emails or eBay messages, Russ?

If so, just forward everything to them if he tries to make yet more of an arse of himself - that way, they can see that you've been an exemplary seller and he's agreed to have the spoiler back again.

People like this just give me a very warm bladder!!

Yep, made sure it is all through ebay messaging service and bent over backwards to not rise to his comments or recent threats..... lol

Latest is threatening to go to ebay complaints as he hadn't had a reply from me within 24 hours.... So I sent him a thank you for being patient and here is your tracking number message as I know me being polite is p***ing him off.... lol

I returned it to him by Hermes as I found out royal mail no longer cover anything under their insurance.... I read their list of items not covered and it rules out claiming for anything at all now..... lol

I even sent him a nice new bottle of BMW / MINI polish with his return package so he can polish his new spoiler without having to send it to me to do next time.... lol

I would have nothing to do with him mate and take the neg feed back.

Hi Gaz, I will take it if I have to..... But making sure I do everything I can to be polite and helpful will only go to show ebay that I have done nothing wrong at all...... and it is winding him up as every email gets more angry and rude.... lol
