you guys would be more useful if you said why you didnt like it ;)

if its gonna be a front page for this site, then it should be similar colours, style etc to this place imo.

Yeah, white is easier to hide at work, but maybe it could have different colour settings ?;)

If you can make it look exactly like SQL Advantage of some sort of Sun Work Station or VB application. I'll be on this forum all day long.

Clarkey,

Good idea but too dark. Personally I hav to hav the brightness and contrast turned down on my Dell box so the boss and other sneaky tw8t5 in the office cant see that I am enjoying myself! In that mode I can just about make out the top title but thats all.

You did ask!!!

Nick

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

I think it's OK, well done for having a go!

I don't have a problem with people looking over my shoulder coz I am the boss!:D :D

I wouldnt want ot be my boss. His job is more than twice the amount of sh1te I have but only gets paid a few grand more for it. And he has to travel abroad every month. No Thanks.

Nick

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Full marks for trying, Clarkey. This was one of those things which I (and I am sure loads of others) were thinking about getting round to one day.

With apologies, I had to vote "bad" but only from the design not the attempt. They're right - the colour scheme should match this one. (and font, logos etc)

Only one layout comment - if you are working in windows smaller than full screen, it sort of bleeds off the edge and you can't see it all.

How about some direct links to Traders areas in the form?

Cheers - Gio

Layout OK, but might be better with the login boxes at the top to make it easier to get to without havin to scroll down.

Top effort though mate.

nice one clarkey for having a go, but i agree need to be consistant with the look and feel on the forum imo.

best way would be to view the source of one of these pages and amend in dreamweaver/notepad/whatever to make the first page. this is def something we need.

well done chap for getting it started.

items that could go on are a few links like to andyp's site, online manual etc and perhaps some info on what goes on in here, how to register etc

we could then get rid of both the stickies at the top of the help forum.

hope you continue with it, if you need any advice feel free to email me.

Cheers

Martin

p.s. well done for not putting moving/flying shite everywhere :D

good on you for having a go in my opinion.

The first page on any site is always difficult, try looking at some other car forums and seeing how they do theirs.

http://www.sxoc.co.uk

http://www.gtr.co.uk

etc, they tend to have buttons linking to the forums and perhaps some news relating to the scene etc..

Keep trying.

Good effort.

It's a good effort, but those colours are not working. They are far too dark and illegible.

ok then, so what would you like? to flow right through with the forum style. If yes, then what style, the puke yellow awful one of the purple one. Or I could of course create a whole new look and make a vbulletin style to go with it.

And i really dont know whats going on with the table, so ill probably end up making a new one.

I dont have dreamweaver, only frontpage and that is worse than crap, so i just work with the code, and im not too hot with html.

What would be helpful is if craig, or anyone else who is a registered vbulletin user could download a homepage mod for me. That way I could throw little dashings of forum on the front page, such as a welcome thing with login, top 10 topics, private messages, whatever..

Dude calm down, it is great that you are making an effort to create a frontend for the forum but perhaps a good starting point would be not calling the existing forum 'Puke Awful Yellow'

Craig has put a whole load of effort into what you see infront of you now and 'Puke Yellow Awful' is maybe an unwise way to describe it.

Keep up the good work Clarkey, dont stress and try not to criticise the existing color scheme, as it is much easier on the eyes than say, a blue text on black background situation.

Top job Clarkey for bring this up.

I think the current colour scheme is quite soothing! :D

Heres my take on a very basic mock up based, on the current look...

300zx.co.uk Front page

I think its good. Nice lay out and I think a front page with news would be good. Like others I just thing that the colour scheme is a little dates. A few years ago all sites where dark but now they are brighter.

Good work though Clarkey

Well done for having a go Clarkey.

But IMHO leave the design to the designers!

The advent of the Mac saw DTP brought to the masses, and as such bad design flooded this and other countries for many years, because everyone thought they could design because they could afford £2K of computer kit.

Whilst I'm a fan of the free-speech and unregulated internet, I'm sorry to say that the Publish and be damned freedom that the web brings has also allowed everyone to try their hand at design and most of the time not very successfully.

Yes, I'm a 'trained' designer, and no I haven't got time to design a new site, anyway you'd probabally hate it because design is subjective. ;)
