I was wondering if any of you hordes (that's a kind collective noun!) of IT guys could give me any advice?

I fitted a 'plug and play' Belkin USB card....well, guess what? I plugged and it doesn't play! The installation disc doesn't seem to run....if I use 'install hardware' on Windows '98 it doesn't recognise that it is there...oh, and my A drive has stopped working since I fitted the card.

Any suggestions??

I may be wrong but I think that Windows98A (First edition) Didnt support USB, and Win98 SE's (Second Edition) major update was USB support.

Have you run windows update?

What you mean your drive doens work? Which one? You may have pulled something out during putting the card in. Drives dont just stop working when you put something in.

If you A drive has stopped working it sounds like the plug any jumper settings are conflicting with your Floppy drive.

Go to control pannel or right and select system. You should notice a yellow symbol next to your hard drive and plug and play devices.

You need to sort these conflicts out. In order for it to work.

it was win 95a that didnt support usb fwiw.

you could also try swapping it to another slot.

It may be your motherfuboard . Some older boards have PCI slots that dont support the 3.3volt rail that usb needs to work properly.

Or something like that.

Kinace don't think i'm weird here but is this anything to do with a Sarah from East Boro?

Here is an email I received from her (I moonlight looking after their network and website etc)

I quote

"I have investigated further, the card is ok and is being recongnised in the

slot "- Socket" not showing empty, but is not giving the name of the card.

I viewed the Eject/Unplug Hardware and showed "Unknown device at location 0

on 02Micro 026832/6833 Cardbus controller", I ran the add new hardware

program within Control Panel and discovered the Belkin Card needed to be

added, it requested the driver, which I found on Belkin CDrom, but then

asked for the windows 98 Second Edition Disk for some .dll files. We do not

appear to have this disk only the original Windows 98 disk. Therefore this

couldnot be completed.

Since this the A:/ is not recognising any disks!!!! What is going on!!!! "

Very spooky

and if not, can you let us know if you sort it so I can pass it on :D, I suggested checking the device manager for conflicts, but besides that I am lost, it all worked before

iirc u shouldnt need a driver disk for the usb pci card, it loads a driver file from C:\windows\options\cabs on oem machines or from the win98 disk on other systems, did it detect new hard ware on startup, if not as the others say bung it in another slot

Ohh, err........the Sarah from East Boro thing is a bit spooky.....never even 'eard of her....honest, officer. I guess it shows that its NOT just me though, eh?

Thanks to all you people that have replied.

I will try putting the card in another slot.......but why the A drive (floppy drive) should stop working is a mystery to me.
