Hi guys

This morning there were two tiny spots of possibly oil on the garage floor. About to leave work just now I found a big puddle about 10cm across underneath! The puddle was under the passenger side rear of the engine, and oddly it looked like an oil/water emulsion, whereas the oil on my dipstick and filler cap is beautifully clean. This was orangey and too thick.

Having no way to get underneath I stuck the phone under the car and took these pics.

As you can see it's all over the steering gaiter but I can't see any anywhere else.

Any thoughts about where it's coming from? Still reading full on the dipstick and I don't think it's PAS fluid either. It has been stupidly hot so I've been running with aircon on, which is unusual.

Thanks for any opinions. I'll try to look underneath tonight but a clue on where to start would help!

Ok this is weird. I've been underneath now and everything else looks dry as a bone. The only place with any oil on is the gaiter!

I did drive home with no aircon and drove like a granny just in case of problems. Maybe it only manifests when I give it some stick or the aircon is on?

I've wiped off all the oil now so I'll check the garage floor tomorrow morning to see if there's any more. What sits above that gaiter that could leak?

Mystery solved. Turns out not to be oil after all. There was a split in the gaiter, between the corrugations, and the fairer appears to be filled with very thin grease. The big puddle was basically the entire contents dumping in one go!

Posted in case anybody else finds the same thing, to save hunting for a non-existent oil leak, and thanks to Jimmer at Powerzed for sorting it out so quickly.

good to hear you found the problem xD, both of my gaiters are split but my steering rack had play in it so will just change the whole lot xD
