Hi all newbe to the site ?

Brief history...

I have a 1991 manual UK spec tt, it's almost hit 70k miles with good service history, I have owned the car for nearly 2 years, in this time I have been trying to get things up to 100% e.g all the rear set up tie bars etc... Anything that looked slightly corroded I replaced, bodywork wise the car is in good condition apart from the 1 rear arch witch is just staring to show signs off corrosion. ( I am looking for some 1 to do the work but most seem reluctant )

Upgraded parts wise it is standard other than a cat back exhaust hks air filter and upgraded intercoolers, I have groves updated discs coming in the next few weeks.

This is where I need a bit of help

The car was rolling roared with air filter and cat back exhaust and was running at 315bhp, from what I've read these cars on stock internals can SAFELY run at 380ish. I'm in the proses of buying an electronic boost controller and I already have a Jim wolf chip getting delivered next weekend, soooo how are these chips fitted lol? Is there anywhere local (Rotherham) that can do it? Also boost controller? Easy to do yourself or is a proper mechanic needed? And psi wise on the boost, I've heard / read that 12 psi is a safe level of boost to use? I have basic to moderate mechanical know how but boost pressures and Ecu chips are beyond me

Any help much appreciated

Cheers

The stock blocks can run a lot more than 380hp

If I was you i would sell the Jim wolf chip on and have it mapped properly by Noz from off of here he will be able to get the most from your setup rather than a generic chip

Ebc is easy enough to fit yourself

Noz? How would this work I would send him my original ecu? As for EBC IS 12psi a happy number lol? Really don't wanna hurt me baby so trying to be as careful as possible lol....

Cheers

Ignore the question marks..... They supposed to be a smiley face

I have the JWT chip in mine, they are as stated a genic mapped chip and tend to overfuel. if you book a mapping session with Noel he will map it on the dyno to get the best from it and the mods you have installed. 360 to 380BHP and 14PSI boost is all good and with the EBC you can dial it down a bit too, well that was my plan too but its stayed on full boost constantly.

Uv sent noal a msg on here, does any1 have any idea where he's based?? Ian I though 14psi would result in a loud bang and coming to a stop lol :helpsmilie:

Hello Dean, sounds like you're going about tuning your zed the right way. Getting her up to stock before adding power.

You could fit the chip and plumb in the EBC, but if you go to Noz, he can fit it, check your car over, then rolling road map it.

The map you will get will be bespoke to your car, your engine, your intercoolers and the rest.

Mine is on stock internals, with Auto turbos and cams. It has run 16psi and 450 or so (engine) horsepower for 32'000 miles. Bear in mind that is 15 oil changes but it (touch wood) is a very happy car.

Good luck mate :clover:

Dunno mate my stock boost gauge is in millimetres of Saki because it's Japanese

About 10 I think, 16 doesn't feel abusive to the car at all. It will shorten the life if stuff but it's not killed anything yet, and I dont run any cats. "Go on my little turbos!" my car was definitely not built on a friday afternoon.

I'm really just testing the water lol.... To be fair when you drive a car you can tell if she's poorly and not long of this world. Butterflies this does feel really solid... With it been the UK spec I'm sure it was 300hp as standard so another 100 shouldn't hurt, I've contacted Noel going to arrange a time and date for him to do the work.... See what he says lol

1 thing bothers me... It does seem as this on tick over it misses a beat every so often, I'm sure it never used to. Injector maybe???

Mine has a 5 cylinder warble that is unique to her, Automodz, Zedworld and Noz have all tried to stop it doing it. All those garages have checked her over and tuned her up and it still does it. Just a subtle tick in the otherwise smoothe

Spot the apostrophe :) it has been put down to just the way the exhausts line up or whatever, nothing at fault.

Get it looked over it'll be fine :thumbup1:

Before having it mapped or upping the power it might be a good idea to do a compression test this will give you an idea to how healthy the engine itself is

It could just be me being picky lol.... Hoping to get her booked in with noz in the next few weeks as he's been on holiday, I'll update the before and afters see what's what lol......... :cursing:

Yeah I'd go with the mapping. I've had a chip in mine that was based on the jwt. I'm replacing it with the stock chip as it just overfuels to the point I can smell it in my decats. I've a straight through system after my original system kicked the bucket and a proper tune is really the only way to go, having everything matched to your individual car.
