I still keep an eye on cars at auction. Thought I will share pictures of some that I like if it interests anyone else. Can't see sale prices, unfortunately.

The translation for this one is as follows

Interior C, exterior C, first registered October 1995, 300 ZX Twin Turbo model, FAT, AC, power steering, power windows, first time in auction, t-bar roof, scratches and dents underneath vehicle, interior grime, steering wheel worn, seats have minor stains, seats have minor wear, door trim has cuts and minor tears, door mirrors scratched, marks as per map

sold at auction for just under 500,000 yen or £3000 making it £4500 approx here without anything being done to it. Cost of MOT, and fog light to be added so nearer £4900. then there is the damage at the front end to sort out and the torn door cards. So this would probably come out at £5400 as is. I tell you the prices are on the up and up by the day!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I get a bit confused by the gradings, seem to see a lot that are grade 4 but then have three or 4 A/U/W2s and even the odd 3 to boot. I thought 2s were supposed to be damage about the size of your palm? Are they just really strict and make it sound worse than it is?

It can vary a lot by auction house, but yes they tend to be very strict.

My car was grade 3.5 but is cleaner than a lot that receive grade 4.

Did you have it inspected yourself or just go by the sheet?

Just the sheet. They're fairly trustworthy.

Of course, it was inspected at the agent's yard, and the auction house would've been liable for any issues found.

I was looking at this one. here is the translation.

Interior B, first registered June 1994, 300ZX Twin Turbo model, five-speed manual gearbox, AC, service book, original alloy wheels, power steering, power windows, leather, T-bar roof, 2-by-2, front power seats, black leather seats, original five-speed transmission, two owners from the same family, some service history, steering wheel worn, seats have minor cracks and are worn, console worn, wheels scratched, AC does not work, minor scratches and minor dents, front bumper scraped, shallow U2 on lower left side step, front windshield has stone scratches, other marks as per map

so with the Aircon not working, dent on the side step leather seats cracked and worn , steering wheel worn, and a worn console, plus scratched wheels this still sold at auction for 5k that would be around 9k to have it here thats without mot and fog lights

thoughts?

Its alot for the quality, but if it's a trend that's good news I suppose.

No it's because our favourite cars are climbing in price. just look at where the 280z sits and it's not a patch on the z32

There are a few available from dealers right now. You'll pay a bit more but you could end up waiting a long time with auctions; it's impossible to predict.
