Changed my front pads on 300ZX TT the other day as when i had my front tyres changed i noticed the pads were looking seriously low. Not sure if this is right but when i removed the old pads, the brake discs started flopping about! Is there meant to be a grub screw or small bolt to secure the discs to the hub? There seems to be a small threaded hole ready to accept somtehing. It's just that i sometimes get a clunky noise from the front when i apply the brakes at slow speed. I suppose that once all the pads are back in and the wheel nuts are tightened up the discs aren't going anywhere, but most cars i've ever worked on have a little grub screw to stop any play. Any ideas folks?? Oh yeah, one other thing.... due to excessive inside front tyre wear i had my front toe/camber checked and it seems way out. Apparrenty my J Spec camber can't be adjusted, but UK cars can! Thought i saw a thread about an adjuster kit that could be bought from somewhere. Anyone gone down this route..... with any success?

Cheers

Your brakes sound dangerous to me - the disks shouldn't move.

I have a load of camber correction kits being delivered in the next week or two and will probably have a few spares so I'll let you know.

I don't think the front camber is adjustable on ANY Z's, UK or otherwise.

The discs are only held on by the wheels and wheel nuts. They can't actually fall off unless you remove the calipers though. The little threaded holes are used for removing the discs when they are stuck - you just find an appropriate sized bolt and screw it in until the disc pops free.

Well I never knew that...

How come you know everything Mr P? LOL

'Cos I hack into Duffer's PC and read all his notes ! LOL

Actually, it's because I changed my brake discs a couple of weeks back. ;)

Did his notes say "allow 3 months labour for fitting" LOL

Just waiting for Duffman to bite now... :D

Is it not possible to shim the top link mounting points on the body to reduce negative camber?

The other way I know is replacement adjustable top links?

I used shims and extra long bolts to sort out mine

Mori all the advise the guys have given is correct, but can I add one bit extra so anyone changing their pads in the future will know.

Before removing the pads tighten at least 3 wheels nuts back on to the wheel studs. This keeps the disc nice and secure which is quite important as if any crap falls down between the disc and flange it can lead to the disc not sitting flat and can cause wheel wobble or disc warp due to the disc been not been seated correctly.

Sorry if teaching to suck eggs etc.

Thanks for the advice guys, appreciated as usual. Glad to know i'm not missing any vital parts from the front brake area. Next time i do the pads i'll probably take the calipers off just to make sure the disc has been seated properly and there's no crap in there

Hi Mori, just noticed you close to me (Coventry) ## (Tamworth) used to do a fair bit of work there once (cctv)
