I know Noz is real good with this kinda stuff but I have a ecu chip which is soldered into the ecu with two wires... However it doesn't have a name on it and I feel this could be a cheap chip. also feeling that this could be the culprit of my bad idle (earlier called a misfire). Is it safe to test this by cutting these two wires to cut out the chip?

Thankyou

Good job you didn't go cutting any wires. They are for the archaic onboard diagnostic function.

It's a Japanese chip. I've yet to see a JDM chip that was suitable for UK fuels, but I don't think I have any Tomiyoshi files in my database. Regardless, the only way to know what's on the chip is to have it read, either via an EPROM reader or the Consult port.

Sure, no problem.

Send me the ECU and I will analyse the chip for you.

Bit difficult that aha. It's my daily drive and I am working all next week... but then have a week off. How long will I be without car?

Or I can always come to you... you are only 1.5 hour away :)
