Hi All,

Just thought I'd say hi!

Got my 1st 300zx tt (auto) about 4 weeks ago now, really love it as it has been a dream car since I first saw one when I was 10 years old lol! The car is beautiful and it turn so many heads.

It has however a couple of issues I wondered if anyone can help with:

When the weather is dry, the car runs perfect.... when it is damp, tbh its awful! When its damp, it idles at around 1500rpm and changes gears randomly and irratically. I have completed the auto diagnostic check which I found online and it came up with the throttle position sensor. Only issue I've got is I can't find a garage willing to work on the car in the local area to check this!

Does anyone know any good garages near Chorley / Preston / Bolton / Wigan that could help fix up the car and also give it a good check over? (There is also a slight vibration through the steering wheel when on the motorway so want this checking out aswell)

Any help would be great!

Thanks guys, I'll check the MAF later.... where is it?

Re the vibration, no, not had it checked out yet. I've rang around a few garages and the minute I say its a 300zx they tell me they don't feel comfortable working on it. Really need a good mechanic to give it the once over.

With nut and bolt jobs I would use random garages if I had to, but with those "zed problems" like subtle miss firing, dodgy idles etc. Either do it yourself with advice from here, or find a local member to help you. People are great in this forum I am sure someone can help you. If I am ever passing by I will lend you a hand.

Good luck mate, welcome to the club :thumbup1:

In the first instance, I would suggest you get your car connected to a ConZult or Datascan software diagnostics

to see what the electronics are doing and what error codes are recorded (if any) for the engine and auto transmision.

Hi gary, again, not sure... I'll take a look when I get home later. I think it is the standard air filter though.

That's brill Tom, its great to be a part of the club. Like I said I love this car...... just doing my head in as I feel like it has its own mind! One day it'll be perfect, others a nightmare... I only find out what mood its in when I start it. If the Power button flashes when I start it up its in a bad mood... if it doesn't then it'll be perfect :confused1:

Thanks for all your help guys... I'll check the filter and MAF tonight.

Think I'll also contact Mr Dent, Shrewsbury isn't too far for me. I also noticed that there was Quavey: Near Lancaster? That is not far at all for me?

I'll give that a go actually.... I also get the problem after I have washed the car so that kind of makes sense (the hose pipe squirting water throught the front grill)

Mine has an aftermarket cover over this and it has the 2 vents... I know that the standard doesn't (do you think that is the reason?)

Welcome mate. Lee Dent would be the best guy to go to. Even if he is a few hours away it's best to go to someone who knows what they're doing.

Any idea why it comes up with TPS sensor when running the auto diagnostic check? Or can this not really be trusted?

It depends if you've got after market filters as well

If you have the cone type after market filter that points downwards even with a standard nose this can cause problems... Especially with the MAF getting wet

I resolved my problems with the after market upward facing mushroom type and no problems since that was installed

Hope this helps

I travelled from County Durham down to Lee Dent in Shrewsbury recently (over 4 hours each way), and I can wholeheartedly recommend him and his team!

& the vibration problem could be the propshaft. I'll be at Lee's Saturday getting a one piece prop fitted.

I'm also thinking wet maf and what gary says is right, about the vented nose panel, let's water in through the vents
