I was just about to post a sneery manual vs auto comment in that thread over there when I got a problem with my clutch. Oops. Can you ever forgive me.

Anyhoo the problem is that (and has been for three and a bit years) the bite point on the clutch pedal occasionally changes. Not gradually, just suddenly it moves a couple of inches down the pedal travel. Still works fine and everything. Then some time later (could be days or minutes), there's a change in the feeling of the pedal and the clutch bite is backwhere it was.

Today it happened again - and the bite point was suddenly about half an inch above the pedal so the clutch never fully disengaged. Would drive around fine but if I floored it, slippy slippy slippy.

And this comes after the clutch was replaced in 2001 and the clutch master cylinder was replaced two months ago. Both by the same Nelson. And it did this strange "first one position then the other" behaviour from the off anyway.

Anyone had anything similar or is it just my fault for having a very old Series 1 silver Zed? :)

And after parking the car up for 2 hours, everything went back to normal. Clutch bite point where it was and no probs.

Sounds similar to a prob i have in my rover.

I don't know whats causing it etc but, do u very lightly rest your foot on the clutch, and i mean just touch it?

I was having various clutch problems, got worse the longer the journey. Leave it for 30mins and its better.

If i make sure im not constantly touching it when driving its absolutley fine.

Just my 2p:p

I know the clutch etc has been changed but, the first thing that springs to mind when any hydraulic system starts doing things like that - especially one that gets hot - is air in the lines/cylinders that's working it's way around the system and popping up at inopportune times and expanding etc with heat..

And everyone knows that the clutches on Z's are a mare to bleed..

And Robtor - shame on you for riding the clutch like that... naughty boy..

Still it was only a Rover, we can but hope you killed it that way... :D

hmmmmm - Ta, Aaron - sounds logical. Can't work out how it does first one thing then the other but that just gives me a good excuse to shout at local Nelson.

Thanks all - Gio ;)

oi!!

I love me rover! Would whoop my Z upto about ermm..35!

But then again my Z is a pile of shite which refuses to work.

Its a 620ti with a few mods producing 216bhp at wheels.

Unfortunately the front wheels! Considering it weighs about a 50th of the Z that aint bad.

Even tho my Z is running crap something about the car's great....a certain charm..

Hi Gio,

The same thing happened to me, eventually Darren after bleeding the system and that not working, changed the Slave cylinder (£30 I have a local Jap spares distributor near me) and no problem! I think he charged me 20-30 for changing it!
