Anyone got one/heard about them ?

Featured Replies

I made some enquiries. They seem to be reasonable value but bear in mind that they are not tuned or tested in any way.

In my days of escorts & cortinas, I remember reading reviews of different exhaust systems & rolling road tests. Many systems actually resulted in less power not more.

These days I think the decent names do actually do an element of power testing as well as making them look and sound nice.

Personally I'd go for something from a big name manufacturer.

Having said that, despite what most people might argue (and I'm ready for it !), an exhaust on a road going 4 stroke is never going to make huge differences.

One last thing is that I've heard that on a stainless exhaust, the life expectancy will be based on the quality of joins. I'd imagine that an exhaust put together in a clean factory would be better than in the garage I saw.

Last point is based on second hand information - others may be able to confirm / deny.

Powerflow also use (I believe) sleeve joints (I think that's what they're called - normal car joints), whereas Mongoose et al. use flange joints..

Not an issue until you come to work on the car yourself (yes, I have a pathalogical loathing of sleeve jointed exhausts, from trying to fit one to my old Renault 5..)

Dave is probably also right on the tuning front, however if the exhaust is lacking the balance pipe, then you are basically limited to tuning the length - very hard on a car like ours, the bore (easy, 2.5" or 2.25") and the backboxes - which will just be straight through cans..

I'd reckon they would be pretty close to Mongoose, as long as it's all mandrel bent and no tight bends..

All IMHO E&OE IIBUINMF..

I need one for my 200SX as it's the stock exhaust and someone rear ended me last week, so I ned a new one.

I've been told that Scorpion are not very good quality, Mongoose suffer from bad welding and HKS are too expensive.

anyone heard of JP Systems ?

I have a POWERFLOW exhaust on my jap tt. I was really pleased with it, full stainless system, LIFETIME gaurantee, had the cats taken out at the time too. You get to choose your design of tailpipe and what kind of sound you want, they fit the backboxes to suit.

Mine sounds the nuts (if I say so myself!) and with that lifetime gaurantee I have no worries. Anyone wanting to check it out, I would happily meet up, I'm in south east London.

Not on the same car admittedly, but I had a Scorpion on my Ren 19 16v (cat back), and I actually thought the quality was pretty good, aside from the fit of the hangers (well, actually it was fine until the exhaust shop mangled them I think!).. Sounded nice too (i.e. b*gger all in the silencer..).

Been quoted £350 (all in) for a S/S Turbo back system (no cat) for S13 200SX.

Sounds good 2 me.

well I was very impressed with the quality of my mongoose exhaust.

My bro' had a powerflow system on his Micra (blue "GTR") which was a dual system (one either side) and was £320 which included making new mounts and took about 3 hours.

Still ok after a year but does rattle when cold and more than one person aboard could be the weight of all the subs LOL. We've tried to find this rattle but the car will probably be going back to Powerflow to be sorted.

We'll have to sort something out to meet up. I will be back sunday but depends on the swell as to what time! Next weekend if you're about? during the week on an evening is ok for me, let me know.

Take it easy, speak to you soon.

James.

do mongoose suffer from poor welds then ?? ,

My Z has been up on a life the other week and all looked really well im happy with my system , it was on the car when i bought it :)

Having sold many Mongooses to you guys, not one person has complained about quality at all, one small problem about fitting due to an incorrect bend, other than that shit hot and good value for the money, Powerflow however whilst they use quality stainless in their backboxes this is not the case from what i've seen and researched as regards the main pipe work, have seen many crimps/creases on the bends after being done in their machine as they can not use mandrel bends, the wall thickness is questionable and is the actual quality of pipework, there are many grades of stainless and the tubes are reported to be off the cheapest available, very bad surface rust, ask around to the places in the know about exhausts before you buy a Powerflow, for the money it ain't bad, but thats as far as i would go with them.

cheers
