Fixing aftermarket bumper to plastic undertrays...

Hi,

Can someone reccomend the best way to fix up the engine undertray. At the moment it's held together with cable ties, which break after a short time and everything falls apart. What do you use?

Where possible I've got the orginal bolts etc, but a lot of the original undertray holes don't seam to match up with a Stillen bumper.

Jez.

Hello Jez,

I suppose the best thing to to make new holes then and then use those threaded plate things you get to mount speakers. They won't come off then.

Cable ties - can he possibly screw anything else up?????

Maybe you can see what you mean on this site?

Hello Jez.

I've looked through the Maplins and CPC catalogues and can't find them. If I remember rightly you said you had some new speakers. If you have look in the fixings that come with them, there should be a couple there..................let me know, otherwise I'll try and find some and post them to you.

Vijay

You've got a good memory...

I'll go and have a look at the speakers...

Do you really need the undertray?

Mine fell of as soon as I got the car (6 weeks)ago and I've not had the time to put it back.

Anyone else know the answer to this question?

Ivan:confused:

Well mine's never had one, and the temperature never rockets or anything like that..

But, I would imagine the IC's would work better with a proper undertray there , as would the radiator and the aerodynamics (now that oughta start a war).

Plus, now I've lost the splash guard under the airbox (fitted a Blitz style filter), I really want to put it back on, just in case I kick up lots of water..

I would imagine that the IC'c and rad would cool better without the undertray as there is more air around said parts.

Anyway without it it also reduces MASS (OMG what have I started now)

Ivan

but I think there are a lot of manufacturers for which aerodynamics are clearly important. Including Ferarri.

Despite the mass, correct direction of airflow is better for a number of reasons: downforce; cooling; drag reduction. Any more?

Without having the degree - if there is an undertray there, the engineers who designed your car thought it needed one! Don't throw it away unless you know what you're up to.

Well,

I would like to put it all back just beacuse they cover the ICs and various other bits, I'm not sure how much of a splash guard they really are. Also, I was thinking of all that snow, slush and mud getting up there around the intercoolers and the cone airfilter being more open to splashes...

The air ducts for the brakes aren't there for show, they must help and I'd like them back...
