I've had these wheels for over a year now & want to get them refurbed as soon as I get back from my holiday. I've read a lot of companies won't touch split rim alloys so gona do it myself & need some advice. I've already split the front faces of the wheel off which are gona be sent off to be powder coated. When I put the face back on do i need to use any seal or just bolt it up? I've got some thread lock to use on the bolts.

Also, as I havnt removed the rim it won't affect the tyre holding air will it? I wouldn't want to get them built back up to find out they've gota be taken apart again.

I've been searching previous posts on the forum but just got more confused by it all so any advice is appreciated.

It's a shame he's not doing it any more as it looks like he did a great job.

mine were done by a local lad no problems at all and they are 3 piece, just make sure you have some bead sealer makes it easier.

my centre was black and i changed to silver powdercoating

Those are autostrada modena's and they definitely are three piece. I will post some pics of when I refurbed mine when I'm back in the UK.

Rim faces are stuck together with a tough sealant adhesive at the factory - I'd imagine something like a polyurethane sealant, as it was a nightmare to separate the faces. They would stay together even with some air pressure in the tyre I bet!

Stuck mine back together with a quality silicone sealant and all was good!

Thanks mate. Do you think id get away with just bolting the wheel faces back on then after they're powdercoated? Would make things alot easier.

You probably would be alright bolting the newly painted centers back in. Test for air leaks and get them balanced, should be good

The Wheel Deal Wirral. Turned out he's had a few zeds.

I wonder is a split rim like a bike wheel as in you we need to put it in a jig when bolting and tightening up the bolds to keep the rim straight also will the inside seat proper with it having a layer on paint on it. I know after powder coating a few things I had to clean some buts off so things would line up and sit proper

That's why I didn't go for powder coating as the bolts might not fit properly. Paint is much thinner so should be ok, I'll find out this wknd. Don't think u need a jig.

Just need to double check before I put them back together. The thinner hub goes on the back wheel as its a deeper dish than the front? Can anyone confirm that?

Can anyone help with the above post ^^^^? Front offset is 30 rear 38

I'd measure your barrel mounting points to see their distances from the inner and outer lip, as the thicker spokes will make the wheel sit further out from you car. If the barrel mounting distances are the same then the thicker spokes are put on the wheel with the lower offset and the thinner is put on the set with the higher offset.
