Hi, as far as I can remember the dip lamps are set up for H1 bulbs, which has 1 blade, yet the plug has more than one, am I missing something? or am I getting confused with the main lamps.

H3 for UK zeds

H3c for import zeds

H3 for either when fitting zenon kits

Jeff, I see that H3c are short ones with 2 blades, ? this would then fit the plug, you say H3 for both for Zenons, but they have a lead on them, does this just plug into the ..er..plug?

The picture below shows the difference between the bulbs, as you said the zenon / hid ones have leads on the bulb, this connects to the ballasts and the power lead goes to the standard connector on your zed so all plug and play.

Hope that helps

okay Jeff, thanks so far. So I'm right in assuming the H3's flying lead plugs into the 2 pin socket, obviously into the power, if this is the case can a H1 bulb , which has only 1 blade be used, with the power socket of the plug plugging into the bulb, (it has the same base config) my only concern would be the length,

Any comments would be helpful.

Rich

The H1 bulbs for the high/main beam have a totally different base to the H3's.

H1 bulbs fit into the adapter and then engage in the headlight assy.

Holding loose in your hand the base of the H1 bulb acts as ground and the spade at the end is the positive.

The adapter plug for this as 3 pins although it's only the outer 2 that are used.

Phutumsch, yes you're right of course, the base is different, the H3 ones have 2 small cutouts, little sq with half circle opposite, whereas the H1 has a diagonal cutout.

Cheers The reason I'm trawling for info is the HIDs just don't seem to cut it anymore, and was thinking maybe some Xenon type night breakers would be better.

Anyhows, thanks for the help

Rich

I don't know what else to say but 100% a H3, 4300 - 6000k and 35w - 55w HID light kit will give off plenty of light for your lows.

You certainly should not be even considering nightbreakers - only for the main beam !!

Last time I saw you drove past at night your lights looked very Blue, so u think you must have 8000k bulbs in at the moment. Do what Andy said and order some 4300 or 6000s. I'm working everyday until xmas or I would pop over with one of mine to show the difference.

Hi Mate, yeah I ordered some new bulbs but as you saw, I think I got sent some 8000k's - not good. I have now got some 6000k's in but am still not satisfied with the output. The main beam "night breakers" look really bright and was trying to get a set into the dip. I'm still looking at things, there's no rush for me nowadays..

Nightbreakers in a dip headlight will piss off every other road user who comes across you.

They'd be more likely to smash into you through being dazzled, than you are to crash because the current HIDs don't give off enough light.

I strongly suspect you would fail an MOT too.

Although the projector lens may take out a fair amount of the dazzlement

Lexx, Hi, Like you mentioned at the end,.Would not the reflector divert the beam down like a normal "dip" lamp and stop the oncoming cars getting dazzled?, you see my main problem is having some... ANY light to see the kerb, or even 20 ft ahead, I have often had to STOP as I cant see anything in front of me.

Rich

Have you cleaned out your projector lens?

20 years of crap on them, combined with possible faulty HIDs will cause issues.

I have HIDs, and have no problems at all in seeing in front.

Lexx, Hi, cleaned out? No, definitely not, not by me anyway. I do have a spare car in the garden and have been trying to get both of the headlight units off, well what a job THAT is!! once I get them off I am looking to clean them up and swap them over, any tips on THAT would be helpful...

Rich

Projector lens can be cleaned without dismantling the lights.

Just need some lint free cloth taped to the end of a bent coat hanger wire.

Feed in from the bulb holder and rub around gebtly untill clean.

There's a guide somewhere with pics incase you don't get what I mean.
