Gutted!

As my search for a pair of OEM rear spats for a Shortie came up dry, I decided to do some hunting on the Net.

I came across a US firm called Ionic Dynamics who, believe it or not, make replicas of the very spats I was looking for! :D

See here.

Emails were sent, prices were agreed and an order was placed. It got stuck in Customs for a few days and I had to pay an extra £18 to get them delivered. They arrived this afternoon! :D

Sooo... you can only imagine my disappointment and horror when I compared them to the OEM set off a LWB I have here and found that they're identical! :(

Yep, they seem to have modelled them off the 2+2 rears, not the Shortie ones. :( :(

I've sent them an email to make them aware of this but I'm gutted. If I'd known, I'd have saved my money!!

So, all in all, that was a complete waste of time and money!! Sick as a chip.....

Can't you get a refund, you were miss-sold so

something? How did you pay?

  • Author

I paid through Paypal - $89.99 for the spats plus $65 shipping, plus £18.87 in Customs charges. So roughly £120 all in.

I'm expecting their reply to be something along the lines of "We modelled them from a 2+0 rear bumper so they must be the right ones!"

Even if they do agree to take them back, I very much doubt they'll cover all the associated charges (especially the Customs one) so I can see me being seriously out of pocket here... :(

Yes lwb spats will fit a swb but they just look longer than the proper swb spats. I would say they have made one set of rear's to fit both models.

Their website specifically states that these are for the 2+0, Gary - that's why I went for them. If it had said "300ZX rear spats" them I'd have questioned the hell out of them to make sure they were the right ones.

Looks like Diesel will be wearing the LWB spats for the time being (probably forever)... :(

I thought it strange when you said you'd sourced some SWB ones as i am always looking.

Also the SWB is much more common over there so you'd think they'd know the difference.

Not sure you know but i have the LWB ones fitted without much issue and as a consequence weren't much coin.

I thought i had found some earlier this year but the guy couldn't get them off the rear bumper so just sent me the front pair :headvswal.

As I predicted:

Hi! These are for the 2+0, we don't make them for the 2+2. If you place these up to a 2+2 bumper they won't line up correctly.

Thanks!

I've sent him Gary's picture of the two different versions side by side, but I reckon I'm on a losing streak with them... :(

I know José who owns Ionic Dynamics personally. There must have been an error as I've sent him a set of 2+0 rear spats. You want me to speak to him? He's a super nice guy.

I don't want to question your knowledge here, mate, but are you certain the ones you sent him were for the SWB? Cos if he's moulded mine from them, then they were the LWB ones.

I'll wait and see what their next email says...

Yup! Pretty sure they are. I'll ask my source. However José has a2+0, so no doubt he would have trial fitted them.

The LWB ones do fit the shorter car, but they're not designed for it specifically.

Head. Battered!

My bad, it was the fronts I sent him.

No worries, mate :)

I've explained at length in my reply why they're the wrong ones, but I still don't hold out much hope of getting any pennies back from them...

And the latest:

Hi! I was unaware that there were any variations between 2+2 and 2+0 JDM rear mudguards other than the fitment. The fact at hand is that they do fit the bumper, since there is no gap on the face or along the wheel well.

And I can also guarantee that they won't fit the 2+2 because I have verified my self, and we made the molds while they were installed on my parts car. The outside lip and the lip that runs along the inner wheel well won't align, that's why we don't sell them as 2+2 compatible.

If you are unhappy with your purchase you can send them back. I will waive a restocking fee but not for the shipping charges.

Kind regards!

Jose.

Unhappy here!!!

Don't be unhappy. He's offering a refund, that's more than some members do....

If you can wait, wait until I go over next and I can take them back for you. :)

He may be offering a partial refund, but I'll still be out of pocket on shipping and Customs charges!

The bit that really irks me is where he says he didn't realise there were any differences - to my mind, I've still been mis-sold and had to pay for the privilege when, if his description (and knowledge!) had been correct, I'd have never wasted my time and money...!

Based on today's exchange rates, I'll be £60.42 out of pocket... and that doesn't even take into account the cost of shipping them back. That, to me, is unacceptable...

My response:

Hi Jose,

The fact that you were unaware of any differences between the two variants doesn't help me - I only placed the order with yourselves because you offered the replicas of the specific 2+0 rear mudguards. As well-made as your product is, it's not the correct part and, as such, is of no use to me.

I appreciate that you've offered a refund for the cost of the items themselves, but I'd then still be out of pocket on the original shipping charges ($65), the UK Customs charges (£18.87) and the return shipping to yourselves (however much that would be - presumably the equivalent of $65). That's a lot of money for me to lose when it isn't my fault that the incorrect parts were sold to me!

Thanks,

Simon.

That's a shame, Need to find someone over here who could mould them, I think they swb ones on my swb, if you can find someone who can do it could lend you mine, one sides got to come off to be restuck,

and tempted by by Twinz ones anyway. Might just replace them.

Are they the right ones?

Hard to tell without seeing them from underneath, mate. But if they are the right ones and you do go for the Twinz ones, first dibs on those ones please!!

  • Author
Any photos of them trial mounted Si?

Nope. But I can take a photo of them next to the OEM Nissan pair I've got to show they're identical.

  • Author

Okies, the black pair are the Nissan originals (for the LWB) and the grey pair are Ionic Dynamics' SWB replicas that apparently will not fit the LWB...

Where did you get the LWB originals from? Your black z?
