brake reservoir sock

Dont know why i just ordered a project mu reservoir sock of ebay not even sure if they have a purpose ive seen varouis theories on the web, anyone know what there purpose is if anything .

    do you mean a banded cloth that goes around the cap?? i used to use one of my wifes pony tail bands and it stopped that oily film you always get around the reservoir top half from the vented cap design
