Now my car is not starting at all i went through all the old service history and found the same problem occurring,a temporary repair was done on the fuse board of the resistor pack some years ago and fixed the non starting problem.

i am wondering if the resistor pack is the PTU?I have just bought a series 2 PTU and harness and waiting for it to arrive (if it isn't this it is something i have been meaning to get)Any ideas would be great

The PTU does indeed contain a set of resistors and could be referred to as that, if you are getting no spark, then the PTU is the likely fault and if there was a known problem in the past with it, then replacing the PTU is a wise move, if not to eliminate that part of the system as the issue.

Many thanks would explain a lot of problems that seem to go back the last owner who had break downs and miss fire issues but never up graded just had a temporary repair hopefully the new ptu solves all the issues. I'll open the old one to see what kind of bodge was done inside.

Second question can you tow an auto ?I uerstand Iit 6onnot rerecommended but possible at low low speeds

You shouldnt really tow an auto as it can damage the gearbox, a short distance will be fine for a long distance i would get it on the back of a recovery truck.

If you must tow it a distance, then the other option is to disconnect the prop at the axle and tie it up out the way, however i have never tried this, but remember that by removing the prop completely you will lose atf fluid out of the rear of the box, so option 2 would be to drain the gearbox oil, remove the prop and place a rubber glove or similar over the input shaft hole.

For info:

Resistor packs (aka dropping resistors) are used with low-impedance injectors, in the Nissan world that applies to top feed injectors as fitted to the 200SX S13 CA18DET, Pulsar GTiR, Skyline RB26DETT etc.

There are some Nissan applications that use high-impedance top feed injectors as well (Skyline RB20DET).

The resister pack question because a previous invoice quoted they did I temporary repair on the resistor pack and I can only think it was the ptu without taking it apart to find out

As for towing I won't bother but it is only 5 minutes walk away but a pain when I was lugging tools back and forth when it's easier to work on just outside plus nipping indoors to use the forum pages for tech data is so much easier but thanks for all the input guys :-D

As i said a short distance at slow speed will be fine, im sure if its only five minutes walk then you wont have an issue
