Engine brake in procedure controversial topic please discuss

Featured Replies

I've had good results from hard break ins, usually a few miles to check for leaks then off to the dyno to be mapped :)

Thank you for replying james. Would you say that is a good procedure to follow then? Also what oil procedures did you follow?

A change after the first few miles, another change after mapping then every few thousand miles / 2 or 3 track events after

Basically as long as you know the map is good then give it death

Lol, if it blows it was going to blow anyway, so just saved yourself a 1000 miles of running in to delay the inevitable

When I worked for Kawasaki, Team Green's method of running in their race bikes was described as

1) take it out of the crate

2) assemble, add fluids

3) start it

4) twist throttle to full a couple of times

5) er, that's it

Modern manufacturing tolerances are so good these days that the bedding-in of bearings, piston rings etc isn't generally necessary - they all fit together properly on delivery from the suppllier.
