Hi everyone, I recently purchased a strip of LED's from ebay and accidentally ordered mains voltage ones to start with...... DOH

But when they arrived they had:-

1) A euro 2 pin plug with no fuse....... Okay you can use an adapter!

2) A diode rectifier in a plastic box in the middle of the live wire....... The box fell off when picked up exposing all the live mains wiring...... Absolutely lethal....

3) The connection to the LED strip is 2 metal pins pushed into the rubber sleeve.... These fall out of the sleeving exposing 2 sharp pins that if plugged in would be UNFUSED and LIVE........

I have emailed the fleabay seller and fleabay themselves as these need to be stopped before they get into the UK and kill someone....

Just a heads up for anyone contemplating christmas lights from outside the UK...........

That is shocking Russ, fyi, there is no such things as mains voltage leds, they are such low forward voltage that they would need an led driver to drop down the voltage in order to make them work with 240v.

You would expect a male end plug on he light string and female connector from a convertor to use those lights safely, youvedonethe right thing reporting them, i would suggest not using them in the format supplied.

Hi Graham, I'm just waiting for either fleabay or the seller to request me to pay postage back to Hong Kong..... I will be speaking to trading standards to warn them...... And won't be sending them back.....

The only thing attached is the bridge rectifier they used...http://uk.farnell.com/multicomp/kbl405g/bridge-rectifier-4a-600v/dp/1621729

The strip has 2 lengths of wire carrying the 240v embedded in it either side of the LED strip, the resistors they used are on the strip.....

So the wire running the full length of this is at 240v DC with no fuse..... so should it get cut or damaged it would expose this..........
