OK after the success of last years drive through of the Blackpool illuminations my fellow REO (and the welsh one too lol) had a chat today and decided to do it all over again!

 

This is most certainly the last chance to come out and play in your Zed before the onset of winter so what better excuse.

 

The date this year is Saturday 18th October

 

The plan is to meet at the Blackpool Premier Inn at the South Shore - just a few hundred yards from the South Pier

 

This has a large secure and free carpark, and importantly no speed bumps

 

Also this means that we can start the run through the illuminations from near the South Pier rather than having to queue for several miles like we did last year

 

I would suggest we do the run a lot earlier this time (say 7pm?) and instead of trying to run all the way to Bispham we run up to the big roundabout a mile or so after the North Pier and turn back round there and come back down again

 

This means we will be mostly in the busiest part of the resort therefore more folks to admire our cars lol

 

After party at the Harvester pub which is attached to the hotel

 

So who is up for it this time round then?

 

And would you like to stay at the Premier Inn for one or two nights or just come up on the evening?

 

If we get a list together soon we can prebook rooms and possibly get a bit of discount.

 

If there is enough on the Friday night we could do a mini-illuminations run then too just for the fun of it (it's much quieter on the Fri night)

Yeah that's the idea lol

 

Last year we started about 8:30pm from Bispham wasn't it? But had to queue for ages even to get to the start of the illuminations. I was thinking that we would start from the Premier Inn and get onto the sea front near the south pier. Starting at 7pm

 

'Blackpool-Z32' gave me a lot of assistance as he lives local. Hopefully he or one of the other local members will have some good suggestions

 

This meet is now advertised on 350ZX-uk and Zclub too

Hi Guys

 

Well The Illuminations run is almost upon us

 

My plan this year is to all meet at the carpark by the Premier Inn Yeadon Way (X on the map)

 

There is a petrol station here too for anyone who needs to top up

 

Unless someone with local knowledge of the roads and expected traffic conditions can advise me better we will leave here at 7pm

 

We will do the Illuminaitons run from South to North this year

 

From Yeadon way, looking at the attached map we could travel via St Annes Road -> Squire Gate Lane or we could travel Lytham Road -> Squire Gate

 

Or some combination of the two using interlinking roads

 

Either way we would enter the promenade at point Y on the map

 

If anyone local could give some advice on this (ar any locals actually taking part?) that would be a great help

Yeah come along mate - a few of us are staying from Friday onwards as well - but see if you can make the actual illuminations run from 7pm onwards on the Saturday it was bloody brilliant last year and it is gonna put a big smile on your face driving out in a convoy of Zeds!!

 

Hey Roobarb - get there anytime you like before 7pm - there is a Pub attached to the Premier Inn (Harvester I think) we can all congregate there and maybe get a bite eat before we set out

 

The car park is huge by the way - and no speed bumps this time!!!

Actually Ian Greenfield and Myself (Gray if you wanna join in as you are in Blackpool) are gonna do a trial run of the route in the afternoon around 2pm so if anyone wants to come along early to do this then let me know

 

If you are on the list and know you are not gonna be attending could you please let me know to save us hanging around waiting for you to show. Likewise if you have decided to come along last minute then let me know.

Weather forecast 19C in the day Sunny with a couple of showers, 15 C at night - so exceptionally good for the time of year!! Looking at the hourly forcast, if it stays accurate, it should stay dry during the hours of our drive-thru 7-10pm

Well guys if your thinking of coming but not sure this is a great night a drive through you won't forget,everone who sees these cars give us a big welcome,so if you want to be notice the is the time:)),and yes we could all meet up after the drive for drinks(if time is ok),last year it took us ages to get through but hopefully if it's Planed better it won't take us as long:),yes hopefully Rich we could meet earlier and have a run to see how long it could take and what route to take.

That is the Plan Gray, having gained a bit of experience from last year - will discuss it with you tomorrow evening :)

 

And yes like you say, for anyone who enjoys seeing and being seen this is without doubt THE the place to do it!!!

 

Plenty of car clubs willl be on 'the run' again this weekend no doubt - last year we came across the scooby club and focus club but to name a few. However we really should be making the loudest noise this year! So come on, the weather is forecast good and the lights will be bright. What more would you want?
