OK after the success of last years drive through of the Blackpool illuminations my fellow REO (and the welsh one too lol) had a chat today and decided to do it all over again!

 

This is most certainly the last chance to come out and play in your Zed before the onset of winter so what better excuse.

 

The date this year is Saturday 18th October

 

The plan is to meet at the Blackpool Premier Inn at the South Shore - just a few hundred yards from the South Pier

 

This has a large secure and free carpark, and importantly no speed bumps

 

Also this means that we can start the run through the illuminations from near the South Pier rather than having to queue for several miles like we did last year

 

I would suggest we do the run a lot earlier this time (say 7pm?) and instead of trying to run all the way to Bispham we run up to the big roundabout a mile or so after the North Pier and turn back round there and come back down again

 

This means we will be mostly in the busiest part of the resort therefore more folks to admire our cars lol

 

After party at the Harvester pub which is attached to the hotel

 

So who is up for it this time round then?

 

And would you like to stay at the Premier Inn for one or two nights or just come up on the evening?

 

If we get a list together soon we can prebook rooms and possibly get a bit of discount.

 

If there is enough on the Friday night we could do a mini-illuminations run then too just for the fun of it (it's much quieter on the Fri night)

Which premier inn do you mean, Pleasure Beach or Airport, neither have a harvester, and the one at the pleasure beach doesn't have a free car park, there is pleasure beach pay and display parking at Balmoral road. Sorry to pick holes!! :1eye:

We stayed at this Premier Inn last year for the illuminations run

 

It's the one just down the side road from the South Pier

 

It does indeed have a free car park and it also has 24hr manned security

 

There is a pub attached to the hotel though in fairness I may be wrong and it may not be a Harvester as I said, but is something very much like that, and they also use this at the Hotel if you book bed & breakfast (for your brekkies) so it must be part of it

A very good place to stay if we do this as it is close to the resort pubs clubs and trams too.

 

Currently quoting £192 for two persons for the two nights

 

But since you are local you can probably come up with a cheaper/better suited venue in which case let's go for that instead mate - and are you gonna join in the fun too?

Ah, yeadon way! I see now!

But possibly there is a cheaper option well situated so we can get into town in the Friday or Sat night if we like and still do the illuminations run?

I had really hoped to do this this year, but there's no way my Zed will be back on the road by then.

We will be coming to this Rich had a great time last year:) we are staying both friday to Sunday making a weekend of it.

Ian & Beth, Myself & Julie are now booked in to the Premier Inn, Yeadon Way Friday & Sat night

 

Gray if you are staying over and want to use this hotel then probably best to book soon as it is pretty full due to being half term that weekend

 

Unfortunately this means half term prices! £192 for 2 persons twin/double room for the two nights room only.

 

Wouldn't bother with the breakfast as it is expensive and we found a really good cafe on the South peir which is like 5 mins walk from the hotel and they did a bloody good breakfast for under a fiver

 

Those not staying can meet us at the pub attached to the hotel on Saturday - the car park is huge and secure so no problems there

 

Who else want's to come join us then?

 

This is gonna be a great weekend break, or just the Saturday evening drive-thru. Probably the closest you are ever gonna gcome to a Vegas style Drive-thru in the UK!

Ok Rich we are all booked,but we are staying the other end at the imperial hotel, cost a bit more but a nice hotel with plenty to do:) we can meet up for a drink we will get the tram up to you on Friday?this is a great weekend for anyone who's thinking of it,and the drive through like Rich says is great fun plenty of head turning,our cars got the most looks all the way up the front:)
