So I know there are a load of oil threads on here, but what is the oil of choice for a rebuilt motor?

Obviously 10w-40 is the recommended oil from Nissan, but on a fresh motor after the initial 1st change of oil will a good 5w 40 be ok?

Have you asked your engine (re)builder?

I did yes, and not that I question his recommendation.

Just wanted to know what other people have used, or recommendations from other reliable professional people in the know.

I once heard that a fresh re-build should be run with mineral oil for the first 500 miles; as synthetic and semi-synthetic oils have lower wear properties, therefore don't allow the bearings etc to bed in as well......

......But then many a brand new car will be filled with the right grade of synthetic oil from the off; which kind of puts that theory to bed:wink:

But you certainly won't do any harm with a mineral oil (of the right grade) if you're taking it easy over the first couple of hundred miles; as long as you do an oil and filter change with a decent semi or fully synthetic thereafter!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
