BIGROY,

just checked out your Z on the rides section to see if I recognised it as I also live near Croydon, Elmers End to be exact. Have you done away with those M3 style mirrors? the pics at the bottom of your ride list didn't seem to have them on?

Looks nice and clean tho!

It's actually impossible to flush the gearbox yourself, all you can do is change the oil - which leaves the old oil in the torque convertor.. So to do a full change you'd have to change the oil several times.. The procedure is this;

You'll need a new autobox sump gasket (I forget the P/N) first.

Get the car nice and high in the air, jackstands or ramps front and rear.

You have to unbolt the autobox sump (18 bolts, I think) and remove it while it is *full* of oil... And then drain it out of that.

You can then unbolt the strainer assembly and clean/renew it.

Refit, and then refill with the required amount of oil via the dipstick tube.

Unless you are lucky enough to have one of the few Z's with sump plugs on the autobox oil pan.

(There's a tech doc somewhere about this, in fact, with pictures.. aha - here http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/autoTrannyOilChange/autoTrannyOilChange.html .. thanks to AndyP's page yet again for the link).

To do an actual flush, you need to take it to an autobox specialist. They hook up a machine to the oil feed lines on the box which actually pushes new fluid in and removes the old stuff while the gearbox is turning - thus renewing fluid throughout, including in the torque convertor.

I think JeffTT has a contact that can do this, though any auto specialist should be able to do it.

Aaron,

thanx mate, going up to Jeff's on tues for him to fit poly tension rod bush's so will see if I can get it done then!

James,

Phone Jeff first otherwise you may be dissapointed if he can't book you in at the autobox place (I forget the name now!!)

The place he uses is near Staffs and they deffo know there stuff, did a pukka job on my old Z (fitted brand new 'zero miles' autobox and new torque convertor when the autobox went west and died after a box flush which showed my box was on it's last legs!! (The autobox should be flush every 12 months to keep it pukka!)

If you go for the flush ask about having an aftermarket cooler fitted while they have it there, will save you box from going bad ways and isn't expensive.

An autobox rebuild unfortunately is..........hence that's why I'm Zedless now..........:mad:
