Morning Chaps

ย

I had the faces on my guages replaced a couple of years ago and at the time we thought the needle was back in sort of the right place however it seems that its about quarter of a tank out.

So I was wondering if I let the fuel get used until the light comes on, (if its not broke), then I could reposition the needle in a more accurate position.

Hence the question, is the light triggered by the fuel level doofer in the fuel tank or is it triggered by the position of the needle on the guage ?

I think it's all linked in at once. The sender in the tank sends an electronic signal to a central pint which displays both the needle and the light. Hence the light should come on regardless of the position of the needle. This happened to my GTO and i just moved the needle. Hapened to a Camaro i had once too.

Best keep a fuel can in the car too though, just in case.

According to the FSM they are separate circuits, with a variable resistor and switch (located in the sender unit in the tank)

controlling the gauge and lamp respectively.
