On my zed I have an after market stainless exhaust with the oval back boxes. On the downpipes there is a tube welded on each, approx 1/2" in diameter, which has been capped off with a piece of hose and a spark plug jubileed in place. My question is what are they for and can I just cut them off and tig weld a plate over hole?????

Most likely the AIV mate, it's a little tube that normally goes off into the wing but we delete them because it's just dross. Saw your two zeds the other day actually, Sunday I think when I was over the in laws.

Yeah still plugging away at it. Just ordered a 99 spec front bumper (ouch! !!) From MJP. Need to pull the engine from the red one now and rebuild

Mines a 1991 so no issues there. I think the scrappy pays about £70 a piece for them:)

Yeah you can decatt, you can choose between using na decats which use the stock elbow or tt ones that utilise a divorced down pipe. I've got pretty handy at getting those turbo elbows detached now if you want a hand doing that, or easier still do it when the blocks out.

I see what you mean. The system I have is one of those aftermarket things made on the car. I've removed the complete system from the car. It looks like one of those stainless systems made on the car and cruedly mig welded with mild steel wire. It has been made with cats welded into it so I guess it was originally made on a later vehicle and swapped onto mine. I might just live with the system the way it is for the moment as it was running fine and I have plenty else to spend on.

Yeah, they do that, cut the cats off and weld them back on. Cats were fitted to all z32s there just not required by law on some.
