Been out in the zed all day and the more I drive it the worse the tick over getting:) settles to 800ish at first then the hotter it gets the more erratic it becomes! At some points it's up at nearly 2000 rpm when stationery at the lights:cursing:have to keep blipping the throttle to make it go back to 1000rpm,and it's running rough at low speeds again:no:,bl--dy car.

There are many things that may be causing your problem, but don't panic.

Firstly I would look at the Throttle Positioning Sensor. (TPS)

With the engine warm, switch off the engine but leave the ignition on and disconnect the grey connector coming off the TPS.

Leave this disconnected for a 30 - 40 seconds and re connect. Switch off and try re starting the engine.

Once we have eliminated this we can move on to the many other things that may be responsible.

Settled down but sounds poor really lumpy, almost like its misfiring

Clean the injectors terminals and temp sender, you might be surprised by the corrosion on the injector connectors and the injectors themselves, also do the same with the IACV and FICV plugs.

Also check the condition of the spark plugs. Someimes ore than one thing can cause lumpy or erratic idles, but eliminate each item one by one until the problem is solved.

Did you try the grey connector as my original post?

You can see it in your picture.

Yes done that mate:)

For me I would be checking the iavc, have had these same symptoms in the past with the revs and once I changed that it was all better.

Yes done that mate:)

OK. With that done, you idealy could do with checking the voltage settings for TPS.

Should be around 0.42 to 0.44 volts at rest.

Hi redwine300 seemed to of acquired a real lumpy tick over now you can feel the whole car shacking :(

What sort of RPM are you getting at tick-over when up to running temperature? ( temp gauge just below half way)

Could be that we now have to look at setting your base idle.

Set TPS 0.44v then set the base idle, remove the yellow plug off the IACV adjust the screw to around 650 revs, then plug the yellow connector back in, the ECU should then take over the idle at 750 or 850 depending on transmission.

lumpy shakey usually means misfire. your idle doesnt really affect this. look in the direction of MAF > PTU > coils/injectors

disconnect each coil at a time until the engine doesnt seem affected by that coil...they you have found the start of the bread crum trail

Thing is all this has been done most recently I think there must be a more underlining problem for this to be coming back time after time,it's frustrating in one way and a shame in another beside this fault it's a great car to drive:(

whats it like at higher rpm? does it change with temp or load?

High revs ok pulls well it's just low down, rough on cruising speeds, going for a run today in it see what's happening.

how are the o2 sensors?

No idea jaffa, not that familiar with the mechanics of these but i think everything its fine, came work in it this morning and she's not happy its getting worse backfiring on over run again, pulls well but not as good as it was:(

  • Author
sounds like it's running on 5 to be honest

To be honest i'd agree,at last dyno was at 465bhp,its nothing like that at the moment, lost at least 100 or so bhp maybe more.
