Any ideas,

Got a 1991 TT 2+2 Jap.

Don't seem to be getting any hot air out of my heater or climate.

Keep going up and down with the temperature controls but there doesnt seem to be any change up the temps but the aircons working??????

Just had a 60,000 service requiring belts and waterpump change, don't suppose this may have something to do with it?

Doesn't sound like the heater matrix-you do get heat, it just leaks coolant all over the footwells!

I would get back on to the people who did your service, run it past them and see how you go.

Good luck.

Err, have you checked the oil and water?

This used to be synonymous with Head gasget failure. Any emulsion in the Oil or contamination of the water?

Did they purge the cooling system when they changed the waterpump? It's a long shot but worth a look, heater valves should be wide open.

or, of course you could just have a low water level, but if you have, where's it gone? Did they not fill it up or is there a leak subsequent to pump change?

Exactly the same happened to me yesterday;

- I noticed there was no heat coming out of the vents at all

- looked at the temp gauge and it was on max

- as i pulled into my driveway i heard a 'gurgling' noise

i switched off the engine, looked under the bonnet and there ws a small amount of steam coming out from under the engine block.

RAC came out, he squeezed a hose and said the car had not water in it at all (cos its been raining i hadnt noticed it leaking out)

anyway got it towed to Nissan and they said the water pump has gone - the day before I'd had the system drained and new antifreeze put in. apparently this can make all the crap go into the pump (or something like that)

so from my (albeit limited) experience i assume its the water pump

or it could just have an airlock after they have drained the cooling system.

better check your coolant level before you do any damage.

Cheers for the advice guys...

Should have given you more info really. Had a 60k service last week, timing belt change and at the same time had the waterpump changed. Checked all levels hot and cold and no residue on the oil cap or dipstick. Temp needle always stays the same. Has this last winter and found the 1st fuse (temperature control sensor) in the fuse box in the footwell to be the cukprit. Not so lucky this time. Fuse ok.

Anybody had problems with the temp contro switches in the past. I also found out that the jap imports have a winter / summer switch somewhere in the cabin any clues........

You didn't actually mention if it had worked in the past ?.

Proabably stating the obvious her but is the rec light on ?

REC on or off, there is no difference. There does seem to be an air gurgling noise coming from the heater piping in the cabin on start up of the engine that lasts for about 5-10 secs.

Any ideas?

I haven't spotted a winter/summer switch anywhere in mine...
