Buying a second hand ECU

Hi guys i have a quick question about buying a used ECU,Does the ECU have to be programmed at all seeing it is from another car?Anyone have a spare one for sale or where is the best place to buy one.Thanks all

    Nope, they are dumb as far as i know. however you do get ECUs which have been chipped to allow scope of increasing the turbo pressure.
