Hi everyone,

Well I shall be getting me dosh back tomorrow and the DeadZed will be finding a new, unsuspecting owner no-doubt(poor sod).

I've been taking what Trey and Jayen (sounds like a jamiriquai tribute band lol) suggested and had a look at a couple of import sitez. BestJapancar and gtrimports. Im going to call gtr imports re http://www.gtrimports.com/z300_p01.htm

Is there anything I should be wary of viz the uprated ECU? I heard it has issues with our petrol>?

Anyway if any of you experts want to cast an eye over her and let me know what you think...

And thanks Jayen for the Email and sorry I didn't reply frown.gif I was upto my arse in the current ShedDeadZed!!

Kind Regards..

Glen

Hi mate,

first do you know what "grade" it is? Grade 3 is about average. It also has what looks like a boost controller(device near the brake fluid top left of pic). It looks like HKS. A boost controller could be a good thing if there are other mods to back it up i.e ECU, injectors, turbos! smile.gif etc. But if not it could mean that the other std components have had a hard life. It also has some cable ties around the left hand side plenum(late night spelling) intake tube.

The interior looks tidy(but most imports do) the side bolster on the drivers seat looks okay, but leather wears better than the cloth trim most imports have.

Exterior looks good and those alloys look the nuts!

I think most important will be if its got any service history and what kind of warrenty will you have(if any). Some of the import chaps on here should be able to point out anything else to look for or to ask the seller.

Oh and about the ECU I've still got the japanese ECU and mix Super with normal unleaded and its been okay on std boost, but if you have a boost controller and a jap ECU you may have issues. I think Warren and Anders have a Mines VXrom so they may be able to shed more light on this.

Happy hunting smile.gif

Trev

Thanks Trev smile.gif

Will give em a ring and see what the score is regarding the car, and Ill find out details on the ECU.

Cant be any worse than the pile o' shite I bought already. smile.gif

Peace and >boost +

Glen.

Glen,

For what it's worth, I would not personally recommend buying a modded import. There can be some great ones out there but you just don't know. The Japs do some SERIOUS tuning and there must be a temptation to cut corners to be as quick as the next guy.

The ideal is a standard car with a turbo timer - suggests someone who cares. Also, don't be fobbed off by someone who says you can't get service history at auction in Japan - you can and I had one. It was all in Japanese but it was the original Nissan book, had engine & chassis numbers and had stamps with km readings. They ARE rare but if you can get one then it helps.

I spent a long time looking at newly impored MX5s for my other half and was amazed at the range of quality of cars which externally all looked fine. I would look for personal recommendations from people who've actually bought cars from the importer.

Ask the importer who buys the cars for them in Japan. If their answer is that they go over there themselves then that's an indication of someone who is prepared to put themselves out to get quality.

Final recommendation is not to go for the cheapest. We ended up buying a car that was £1,000 more than the cheapest and I believe we got an absolute bargain - and it's done another 8,000 miles or so since.

Dave

Agree with Dave 100%

Standard is good, less likely to have been 'rebuilt' too.

Ok thanks, comments taken on board and logged... I always listen to you guys you know smile.gif... now then where was that advert for the 91TT for £3500....

Hi Glen

I totally agree with Hairsy go for a standard mate then if you want mod it yourself,I bought a 89 TT three years ago from a dealer who i will not metion as i will only get wound up again, it was standard to look at but it had been super chipped and had a boost control on as well it was running stupidly fast and when it boosted at high speed the wheels wud spin but that was when it was running. Anyway i took this car everywere but no one could fix it i end up shelling about 4 grand out on it,I Eventually gave up and bought myself a 94 standard with full jap history and loads of receipts low miles and very clean and runs a dream i did pay a little over for it but i got a good car and a good 5 star warranty

just look round m8 and wait if you have to there is good ones out there.

Good luck mate

Terry

Looks nice in the pics but need to looked at in detail in the flesh as it were no cruise control ?? Personally I prefer Jap imports

and find they usually are well looked after by their previous Jap owners.I have senn some imports that have had a couple of english owners and they were sheds? I cant understand people who wreck cars.Good Luck Jeff TT

Just to reiterate what folk are saying.

Mine is an import.. had it for 3 years now.

Most import things about it were:

- japanese manual, old mots, service history all there (in original leather z folder).

-standard car, with HKS turbo timer

- little things that show you they cared (had original t-top bags, original thick z emblem floor maps, flare in passenger foot well, fuse holder has spare fuses.. hell it even had the original minted toolkit/jack/etc all in its polystyrene place under the boot carpet.

Stay away from anything modded. The import dealer aren't stupid. When they get a dog in, they will tart it up.

For example when I got mine, a black Z had also just arrived off the boat... bald tyres in yoko avs alloys, massive exhaust system, none of the above little bits and bobs.

It was obviously just been used as a track car... not good. And the dealer wouldn't be able to sell it like that.... so I took the avs alloys, and my standard alloys went on the black one. They took off the big bore and put on a spare old standard exhaust they had, and also some spare mats, t-top holders, etc....

By the time you come along and look at it, you think it's a minter and had an easy life.

As I say.... look for the little things...

Hi

I have a jap import for 18 months. I am now selling it due to house purchase. Its very sound as I have spent a mint on replacement engine and a full rebuild of the auto box. The engine failure was due to dodgy oil filter but I had a good warrantee. The engine and box are still under guarantee.

car has done 72k but engine a lot less.

Its black and looks good ask craig..

Open to ofers around £6k. save all the aggro of importing buy from someone who good knowledge of the car. A good warrantee can be privately purchased for £300.
