This may sound stupid but why buy big intercoolers when we all have the aircon refrigerator sat doing nothing most of the time!

Surely there's a way of rigging it up to cool the intake air?!?!

Featured Replies

Doesn't the aircon shutdown on full welly to save the power for going faster rather than feeling cool ....

you are kidding right? cause then that must be the funniest thing ive heard, these arnt ricer cars lol, they are fit for people like elton john?

Yeah, the aircon does shut down under a heavy boot but that could be disabled surely.

A few bits of pipe would do the trick me thinks...

And yes I had had a few beers when I posted the idea last night!

Here's a Crazy Idea,

How about having hi flow leccy fans on each cooler. When boost goes over 8 psi fans kick in forcing air thru the cooler.

Dunno if they would fit in the tight space though. This would only be good if the fans could create more air flow than fast driving of course.

That's not as crazy as you think, it wouldn't work on the Zed, but i have seen eleccy fans on the intercoolers of cars that have had turbo conversions done, they claim it worked for them. Smithy I.O.M

I would have thought that the aircon motor would use more power than you would gain by chilling the intercoolers with it

Paul

Won't work

Goes against the 3rd law of thermodynamics..like creating "never ending motion", or "free energy"...

Zee you

PS: Spraying water on the intercoolers may work

why have non of the big jap companys come out with this idea !!!

Yes would not work on the TT IC design.

The Two ways you could improve the cooling without upgrading the units is .

1. Spray with coolant - Supra guys are very big on this. Never really seen it on many Z's tho.

2. increase the efficency of the IC ducting - I know that one IC runs about 35% hotter than the other - Stillen does a kit to help this but is expensive and dont really do much. FMIC's are fun but hard to install

Z ya

you can get charge cooled ic's for the Z.

instead of running water through them, run the aircon gas, that is the original question i think, rather than trying to do something with the stock ic's

this would work, and would be.. "cool" wink.gif

i have thought about it plenty of times....

spraying the ic's directly also works

this has been covered before though... you need to spray WELL BEFORE you are boosting, as you want to cool the ic's down before you need them wink.gif

who has a spare intercooler for me to lend for a week?

i am going back to south africa and if i can take a stock intercooler, then i can give the exact measuerments to a company over ther that can make nice big intercoolers for way less than HKS, GREDDY OR STILLEN they do all the race intercoolers for the rally cars and sports cars in south africa..

Scoobies have a button on the dash to spray the intercoolers, not sure if they kept it on the latest model but know that the older ones defo had it! Cool in my opinion!

GTO's have a button that changes the exhaust note from quite to sporty...even cooler! If not a little gimmickey!

;-)

That should read "quiet" and not "quite", bloody 'ell, who'd believe me if I told them that I got 2 x English O'levels(lang. and lit.)!!!

For the very SAME reason opening the door of your fridge will NOT cool the room, using the AC to cool the air to generate more power will NOT work...

But the spraying will work....I already have all the piping (Nissan calls that..headlight washers.....)....I simply need a little more time

My Jap Z doesn't have headlight washers so it would be a little more tricky to fit but I might give it a try.

An even more crazy idea would be to spray the intercoolers and then freeze it to ice with the aircon! LOL

Shame you would need a couple of hours warning before boosting... smile.gif
