I have a non Z related query - maybe this should be in the off topic forum? Mods please move if this is the case.

 

To cut a long story short - I purchased a computer from gumtree some time back. I have been using it no problems for a month or 2.

Anyways it popped up - updates are due, so, I updated. Since then I get a message every single day the version of Windows in not genuine. I do want to get this resolved asap.

 

My question is what are my options? The cost of buying Windows seems rather expensive in comparison to what I paid for the tower? To be honest I didn't know it had a counterfeit version of windows installed.

No other option that can be done m8 thats ( Legal ) and with in the rules on whats said on the forum :)

 

you gonna have to bite the bullet and buy win7 .. and dont get it from Ebay there is alot of counter fit ones on there

If you have any mates who are computer literate I would speak to them. I'm sure they could get you a copy ;)

 

Failing that I do have a genuine activation code somewhere that I havent used. But I cant commit to giving it to you yet until I know what I am doing with a possible build for my living room media

Yeah, it would def stop updates that disables the activation process from working.

Apoligies for butting in, but I would seriously like to know if there is any way to get notifications of emails in Windows 7 ??

 

Or even be able to stay signed in !! Proper pita since the stopped Messenger and went to Skype !!

My daughter stays in China and we never use Skype for vid calls, too much pixelation and restarts, we use Oovoo.

Pretty much stock here mate. Windows 7, Outlook is what they gave me ! Had the same email addy for 8 years or so, ends in @msn.com

Have a google email addy, had too for my Samsung phone.

 

Have tried a few email notifiers, and none of them automatically sign you in on start up.

Been fannying around with it since the weekend and still not the same as it used to be. MSN`s take on it is they have done away with it and have no plans at present to bring it back !!

The most annoying bit is having to sign in every single time you want to check for emails ! Used to switch my pc on in the morning, it could run all day and it was always signed in, now if you close the window with Hotmail in it, you have to sign in again ! Its no biggie, but its annoying !
