Got up this morning to goto the Motor show and checked the Z over b4 wanting to set off,

 

All checks fine but i notice a little smoke as shes sat there ticking over so im stood out side the car and put jsut a little revs on ,

 

 

the bleepers not going on so i think she aint in reverse , im very wrong :( . she shot back taking the driveway fence with her ripping the drivers side door the opposite way .

 

Im going to the motor show now and not really looking forward to it :( ,

 

my ins excess is 350 quid so im not sure wether to just buy a ne door or door skin or just let the insurance take care of it coz the door pins are no longer anygood etc.

 

if anyone has any ideas and can offer me any help plz do im absolutely gutted :(

with 350 excess and the fact that you will get stuffed for the claim for the next few years I think it would be madness to tell the insurance. Get a door from andyz then get it fitted and painted it will cost you less in the long run.

Sorry, but I have to confess that I'm sniggering at you expense. Welcome to the 'lights on nobody home' club.

 

I agree re the insuarance. I think if it's just the door, you should be able to get it fixed for not much more than your excess, if you use good second hand parts. You can also talk to the guy selling you the parts and get him to throw in all the hidden nastys (hinges / door pad etc etc).

 

If you go through the insuarance they are obliged to replace every damaged part with a new part - how much do you think a door is from Nissan UK? or a hinge, or pad or or.... I wouldn't be very surprised if this is not uneconomic to repair. Then they will either take your no claims, or jack up your premium (or both) for ever!! For me - I kept the protected no claims, but the premium went up by a mysterious 70% - Only legal if you are a large financial institution I guess.

 

The only thing that you need to be careful about is the door pillar. If thats damaged you are sh*t out of luck.

Right oh let`s see, first off the insurance may well right it off on the uneconomical repair stance, however that may be ok if you buy it back and get repair done etc (like we did for Emero recently) and end up in profit! or you can suck the repair cost and keep next years premium sensible.

 

You can take this opportunity to sort out those niggling scratches etc and pay for the repair yourself as in theory you have £350 towards it (insurance excess)

 

One thing though, the damage may not be just the door the pillar and wing may have been pulled also.... no problem to repair just a concideration.

 

Insurance or self finance repair ???? Mmm...you know we can fix it for you and make it better than before ( paintwork) at the same time but it is your choice what route to take, my advise concerning the insurance is if you go that route make it very clear it is your only transport and it is vital they complete quickly as December is VERY close and is the worse month to make a claim (speed wise) Call me if you like and can discuss it can source used parts etc.

Just out of interest, is there anywhere you use as standard for prices of panels, doors etc ?.

Usually the rule is for Nissan Z parts like that, is thing of a price which is so rediculas but you are just willing to pay for it because you need it. Then double it.

 

Examples

 

Oil pressure sender unit. I got an after market one now £6 for a new sender unit. Nissan £80+VAT when I asked

 

My speedo died.

2nd had dash board £125. Nissan £380+VAT

 

Door handle

AndyZ £25. Nissan £97

I can supply you with a door for £50 (UK or import). I might even have the right colour if you're really lucky.

 

I can arrange postage too if necessary
