A friend of mine's mechanic mate had to drive a customer's Twin Turbo ZX briefly after some work was done on it, and he reported to my firend that he thought 'it wasn't actually that fast'. Was he talking out of his arse?

Well let me tell you this : A friend of mines mothers ,fathers, brothers best friends grandfather who fought alongside a guy my dad actually knew, before he went and had an afair with this guys whos brothers best friends father was related to the same guy that started research into "the im 12 year old wanna be syndrome"and ended up standing next to the guy who won an academy award for being the person who had a sister who went out with Bruce Willis's boyfriend, and he inturn ended up knowing this other guy who also drove one and said it was not fast, because it was an auto?? (dont know what that is about) said it was very very very fast, but that he could only drive it when he left school and got a Nova :D:D:D

Now *THATS* comedy!

You have to drive the car a certain way.

Not many people have the guts to floor it all the way upto 6000rpm change gear and floor it to 6000 again.

Well just to throw the cat among the turkeys, I don't think that mine is that fast either, but there again I've been driving it for 4 years and I guess I've got used to it, plus I've always had quick bikes so I know what 'fast' means. Been in TVR's, Porsches, Lambos, Lotus etc and whilst each can be quick under the right conditions they don't scare me. The only one that came close was a Viper and that was due to the handling not the power !

The only one that I really dream about is a good Cerbera, one day ... one day ....

Cooo, Coooo, Coooo. Meaawwwww, fffffft ffffft, meaaaww, Coooo, coooo, cooooo

Is that for real:D:D:D

er, why stop at 6000? it revs to over 7!!:D

sometimes I think the same too tho, until I look down at the speedo, or at the little 'erbert in his RS ford disapearing in the rear view mirror ;)

I know it is quick, I don't get the sensation of it being fast though,

I think it comes down to individual people as well, personally any land vehcle I get on I can't feel the sensation of acceleration, I just floor them until I am going top whack. The zed is so stable as well I guess that is why a lot of people don't think its quick.

But I never tell M3 drivers its not that quick as I zoom off from them at the lights.

My favorite experience of speed was on a jetbike in cyprus, shooting along the water at 70mph is a new experience. Especially when you are racing speed boats :O)

I think the fact that its smooth and quiet under acceleration helps. I took some one for a drive to show him what its like. After flooring it at some lights on the East Lancs, he asked how fast we where going and was very suprised that we where going 80mph

If you are used to driving your car, then are probably used to it and can;t tell if its quick or not.

Here's a little test. If you think your car is not that quick. Jump in the passenger side and let your best mate open it up on the road for you. Then come back and tell me it's not fast once you changed your pants. :D

Sold my Cerbera in June, sometimes I didn't think it was "that" fast.

If you're used to driving something day in day out you get used to it. That's how fighter pilots and formula one drivers learn to react to situations developing at speeds that would make you or I curl up in the footwell the first time.

Had the Zed for 2 months now (ish) - loving it. And actually I do think it's pretty quick- it's all to do with torque, and turbo's give you gobs of the stuff early doors! Mind you, i've got a sneaky suspicion my zed ain't bog standard.... ;)

Just bought a GSXR600 though... tis pretty much my first bike (passed test in July) - I reckon i'll find that "fast" for a quite a while.... :D :D :D ....as long as i stay sticky side down that is! ;)

yeah i know exactly what u mean, before i bought mine a friend took me out in it, and hes used to driving fast, he races karts and is a lunatic, i was close to be sick, my stomach was in knots, he took it out the other day with another mate in it, it was bone dry and pretty warm, even with the 265 rears he got it side ways on a straight road from pull off, he wasnt expecting that at all, there was an almighty woosh when the turbos kicked in and arse end came out, i was like whoa, just glad i wasnt in it.

Be careful. Loads of people pass their test and buy a fast bike straight off and end up killing themselves.

Riding a fast bike is nothing like driving a fast car. I think X-Biker can back me up here.

Thats true. When you put your foot down with the years of driving the car you know what to expect and when then expect it. Being in the passenger seat means you dont know what to expect.

I drove my girlfriends Corsa for the weekend a while back. Getting back into my Z it seemed to fly :D

GSXR600 for a first bike - strewth !! Let's be careful out there !

... and don't ride inn the wet for a while ...

My first bike was a blade, then I went down to a ZX6R then to a fazer, then my last bike before the big accident of 97 was an ER5.

Work that one out

I drove a metro about 20 miles one day, I got back and my zed seemed slowish, it was getting to speed 10x quicker but it just feels so damn stable.

I wanna go go-karting, the ones that hit 70mph are tempting atm :o)

YUP!!! I always felt the Z was quick, but compared to a bike? Sorry, no way. A proper modern bike will totally blitz even a modded Z, not just once but again and again and again. In fact from every set of lights and I reckon from 40-140 mph as well. (maybe not on a 600, but then again the 600's have more 'friendly' power) The sheer viciousness of the acceleration of Blade, R-1, GSX-R1000 can be intimidating! (a Z doesn't try to smash it's steering wheel into your gob as the front wheels come up!)

Don't mean to open a can of worms here, but the new crop of Jap missiles will do sub 10.0 sec quarters, in standard tune!:D How quick was NITROPOW?

Yeah, be careful on the 600. They're little jewels, but they will still spit you off, kick sand in your face and shit in your trainers if you don't respect them! (My first bike after passing my test was a CBR600FH) Also, as a new rider, you may not have come to terms with the fact that you are now INVISIBLE!!! (but don't try getting into the girls changing room!:D )

My dad has a BMW motor bike RS100 I think it is. And even though that is classed as a touring bike is does 0-60 in 4.1 I think he said.

He has a Kawaski ZXR 750 I think it was. That was in less the 3 seconds standard.

I have been on the back of the bike when my dads been driving. Once behind a load of traffic stuck behind a tractor, doing about 20 in a national speed limit. Being a carful and very experienced rider he said to me when he gets chance he will pick the cars off 1 by 1. Clear peice of road. Open the throttle doing 30 in 2nd with in 3 seconds I looked we where doing 80mph and sill with loads of power in 3rd gear.

As you can guess there was no need to pick the off one by one. We shot past them all with with in about 50 yards.
