Ok im experiencing some strange goings at the moment with my 300zx and wonder if anyone can shed any light on it .

When i accelarate hard im noticing that the engine gets to a point where its seems to be revving but the power is not there. As if the drive cuts out at a certain point. Have noticed on the boost gauge that when it gets to about 7 it fails to go any further..

Can anyone tell me if this is the first signs of turbo trouble or has the car gone into saftey boost ( i've heard it mentioned a few times on the forum but dont know what causes the car to switch to this mode )

Is there a few things that may cause this safety boost ?? Fault temp sensor etc ??

I suppose the first thing to do is an ecu diagnostic.

Is doing an ECU diag easy ?

How much does it cost to have one done at a garage. Id prefer to let somebody who knows what there doing have a look at it .

sorry about that, should have given a little more info (me being lazy). It's really easy. There are 2 ways. The first is on a screw that can be turned on the ecu:

http://www.ttzd.com/tech/diagnostic/diagnostic.html

http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/ecu/ecu.html

and the second which is the easiest is on the consult port (down near pedals above the kick panel):

http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/faqpages/ecudiagnostics.html (TT.net seems to be down at the moment)

It really is that easy, learn to do it yourself - it comes in handy.

Where about's are you?

Vijay

Thanks im based in Bristol, i guess im just a bit concerned about getting the thing stuck in diagnostic mode and not being able to get out of it again ... If i cant will disconnecting the battery for 30mins get the car back in normal mode again.

P.s how does it show multiple faults ..? Just cant see getting the hang of this some how ...

afaik it goes out of diag mode as soon as you turn the ignition off, if not then a reset would deffinatly do it. It really is easy, even I can do it ;) :D
