Hi all. Not been on here for a while. Hope you're all keeping well.

I'm after a bit of advice regarding a recent ebay transaction. Basically I sold my friend's iPhone 5 on ebay and the seller complained that the item had a mark on it and therefore didn't want it. I agreed to offer a full refund, but only once the item reached me (done via Paypal's menus).

After a long wait and numerous reminders, Paypal in their infinite wisdom, decided to give him a full refund without him ever having to return it, so he's still got the iPhone and my £270.

Can buyers get iPhones for free like this or am I being shafted some other way i.e. by Paypal themselves! I've filed an appeal and the only options are "Provide tracking information" and "buyer has been refunded once already." I'm lost on this one and it's Christmas FFS. I have provided tracking information, but that is for the original shipping of the iPhone??

Thanks in advance for any help or advice,

Dave

Paypal should not have refunded him the money unless he posted it back.

Call them and talk to them on the phone as something has went wrong somewhere.

I hate ebay now, it used to be a great place to get a bargain or sell something you dont need anymore, hey what its supposed to be  but they seem to look after the buyer now, far more than the seller, which is  after all its the seller they make the fees from and take those fees regardless, take now and fight later

Give them a ring, you will get nowhere very quickly using the resolution centre, bloody useless. Hope you can get it resolved asap :thumbup1:

I had something very similar, I was blazing to say the least as I could see where it was heading, just ring them and tell them what's happened but be angry but not overly so.

They will I expect just give you the money as they did this with me, but it doesn't disguise the fact that the buyer as the item and a refund as well, just live with it as you wont actually be out of pocket .

I knew I'd get some sense on here - thanks so much for the replies. I feel a bit better now! I'll give them a ring later.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Infuriating this situation, I hope you get it sorted tajing the good advice on the here.

I had the same with Paypal after an ebay buyer reported an item not working when he received it. The unit was in full working order as I had only just finished with it off the boat, the unit he retuned at my expense was not the same one I had sent, as i had taken the serial number down It turns out he was a trader and sent one of his fault units back so he could sell on mine....Paypal said that they I had no recourse as he had sent back a unit! and they enforced full repayment including collection fees!!!

That's unbelievable mate, the gall of it. I wonder if he'll regret it when he's on his death-bed? Probably not.

Hi,

Yeah - I phoned up last night and explained the situation - thanks for the number. The girl on the phone went away for about 20 mins and said that she'd have to have a manager look into the case. I'm supposed to hear back later today via email. I'm not too hopeful though.

Thanks for asking,

Dave

on paypal there must be a name and address of the buyer when they paid you originally. i am sure there is a member on here local who can collect the phone for you or your cash or their pet or something

Hi. Yes I do have his address and if I didn't live so far away, I'd be paying a visit. He lives in Bournemouth.

Cheers,

Dave

did you get the email ?

Hi, no I didn't get anything, but I'm not really surprised. I'll have to phone them again tonight, I'm sure there will be no record of our last conversation etc. etc.!

Cheers,

Dave

There is a few Bournemouth people on here I think...

It's particularly annoying because at first he wanted a refund before mailing the phone back to me. I refused and went through Paypal. I made sure I clicked the 'refund upon confirmed return,' not the 'refund without return' option. Somehow he seems to have gotten away with it through their incompetence.

As a buyer I once bought what I thought was a genuine SD card, but it didn't work and was a fake Kingston one. Paypal forced me to return it recorded delivery, which I did but the postman didn't electronically log it at the other end. I even faxed a copy of the recipient's signature, which I eventually got from Royal Snail, but still I never got refunded. It was only about £10 and they made me jump through so many hoops for nothing, yet this tw@t gets away with a £260 iPhone 5. It takes the piss.

Cheers,

Dave

Have you thought about about going to the Police? It sounds like a fraud to me. They may have had reports of this person doing the same to others.

Hi. I spoke to Paypal today and they are now making him post it back at last! I think I'm going to delete my 10-year old Ebay/Paypal account and use Amazon etc. from now on.

Thanks for all your help everyone, it's much appreciated.
