Got a problem in that when the car is idling, and is completely stationary, i hear a gurling sound coming directly from in front of the dashboard. When you open the bonnet up, there is a round black circular cover (housing?) attached to the body of the car directly in front of say where the dashboard is. What is this cover for in the bonnet area and why is the gurgling sound coming from it. Any of you guys got any ideas as to the reason for this sound.Anyone else had this problem before. How do i solve it?

Its sounds like your AVI valves. I think its called that. They are located in the drivers front wheel arch.

Should i just drill a small hole in the bottom of the pipe then to remove the condensation or will this damage anything???

Errr. I dont think it damages anything so to say. The will not work while full of water. I hear that if they are not working it can make your car run 7% rich. I think drilling the hole to get the water out is better than having it full of water. I think its a tempory fix, but people have done it and kept it that way.

Sounds like the round black cover you are talking about is the brake master cylinder... don't drill any holes in that!

The gurgling is a build up of water in the filter box for the AIV valves. Drilling a hole in the hose will just make the hose leak air ;) You need to drill where the water has built up - this requires removing the inner wheel liner and undoing a few bolts. About 30 mins work each side roughly. The other option is to remove the whole god damn setup.

I did this on mine recently. Remove road wheel and rear of arch liner. This will expose a black plastic air filter type of box. Mine had a hole already drilled in the bottom with a self tapping screw in it. I just undid the screw and a mass of water went all over my dad's garage floor:eek: :eek: :eek: .

 

Stopped gurgling instantly:D

Its a common problem. I think its the valve as stated earlier (looks like a mini air box). I can sell you one for £25. The casing often cracks, causing the noise you have. Its situated in the inner wing. Darron (my local Z mechanic) will fit one in about 15-20 minutes if you're local ??

Being a dab hand at this,have got the time down to 5 mins per side,it can be done with wheels on!,proud of myself i am,i wonder if theres a competion somewhere in the world for the fastest AIV de-gurgle fix!:D :D :D :D :D .
