hiya,

been away on holiday, and have had hectic time getting back into the forum swing :)

am busy as hell at the moment, so forum mods will be a bit slow for a week or so.

but, have to get this offer out to you all :D

Before i start, i would like to give many many thanks to AndrewG for the 2 week loan of his driveway, and his help in the whole process of removing/replacing the radiator. cheers.

Specs:-

Stock rad is plastic tanks with aluminium single channel core

Replacement is brass tanks and copper dual channel core

This means that the new rad core is almost twice as thick as the old one, but the width and height remain the same, with all locating pins and shroud brackets in the correct places. It also retains the bleed screw in the non-capped end tank.

The end tank thickness is almost the same, and just about fits into the stock retaining brackets at the top, which i asked him to make sure of, as they are also the bonnet stay brackets...

If anyone has a spare one of these (AndyZ?) then i would like to send it so the guy has one permanently.

Price is 170 quid each, plus delivery.

Group buys need about 4 or 5 units, which he will turn around in as many days.

For you "auto" guys, he can fit an oil cooler into the end tank if you want, for the same price i think, but i guess most of you have upgraded to external coolers by now... ;)

I guess i should start the group buy forum up pretty quickly hey ?

If you are interested, then i would like to collect the money from you so i know how many to order, and i'll hold onto it until they are finished.

Have attached photo of the rad before fitting, and next post will have photo of it in situ including samco hoses, but no shroud.

Any questions ?

Any takers ?

If i can make it to any of the next couple of local meets then i will (have rear slicks at the moment though :( ), but you are welcome to come visit if you want to see it first.

here's the other pic

maybe i should enable pics again... lol

oh, by the way, here's the alternatives...

Nissan supply new rad :- 270 + vat

end tanks 40+vat and 38 + vat.

one end tank in US, other in UK.

If you can source end tanks, then MAC1 has a contact that can make a similar spec to mine, with original end tanks, but see him for price.

Patent part listed in rad guys book is for Z31, even though listed as Z32, for 170+vat

So I take it there is an increase in mass here ?

But the cooling efficiency will be increased much ??

  • Author

i would assume the efficiency has increased, as it will flow twice as much water across the core in the same time frame, and i think copper is a better heatsink than aluminium ?

however, finding a better and cheaper alternative to the stock Nissan unit was more of a priority for me, and probably most others, so the efficiency figures are of no real consequence, imho

the exponential increase in quality has caused a minor increase in mass

Ok im not trying to be funny here NELSON but does the mass increase really matter in the real world. you are talking again of 1 to two kilos which is pointless because how many factors do you need to take into account for this to actually matter, i mean so you put the radiator into one persons car who's owner weighs 10 kilos more than the other owner?

cant make out if your actually serious regarding this or just doing it to wind people up or try be funny?

enlighten us please?

And would the increase you get in cooling not offset the difference ????

Firstly - Craig, thanks for reminding me what a white zed looks like with an engine in - all be it a friggin dirty one :p LOL

Secondly - Nelson, how much do you weigh??? serious q ;)

CheerZ,

Andy

See "Why this place is shitt" thread ------------>

You too ;)

Yes Craig...definitely interested.......I would prefer one with transmission cooler (Uk auto).

Hoew soon could you get hold of one.......I would want ot sent to SE Nissan.

Plesae advise of total cost and I will ensure that a 'non-rubber' cheque is winging its way to you ASAP.

with regards to the radiator, if the water id flowing through at a greater speed, then i cant see it being cooled quicker. surly a thinner core would dissipate the heat far better, ie if you have hot water in a mug it would stay hotter for longer than if u emptied the same amount of hot water on the floor. ie of you spread it about further it will cool down further.

whaddya think?

I think the increased flow is due to it being dual core...which will dissipate the heat quicker through the medium of the radiator surface area...you know, fins'n'stuff.

I have no doubt that a more technical explanation will arrive....and I've got a pretty good idea where it will come from....................

Not being funny but why are you now arranging a Group Buy on LIGHTWEIGHT performance radiators ?;)

LMAO simply because thats how they are made, not made deliberately lightweight, in fact they are around the same weight as the stock unit.

2. Nissan 300 ZX Koyo ----->All Aluminum

Click for Larger Image This Radiator provides maximum cooling for racing and street performance. It's all aluminum construction is ideal for the high-performance engine in your street racer. When it comes to performance, this radiator has it all. Durable, ------->lightweight

Your Price: $380

Not trying to start nething, just making a point ;) The mass is probably a minor or unimportant factor 4 u - I'm sure the cooling efficiency is what u r after, but just making the point that losing mass even on one component in an engine is a valid and worthwhile goal - or at least many seem to think that.

mine isint a KYOSHO rad Nelson, they are of my own design.

of course mass is an issue, never said ti wasent, if you remember your original question regarding mass, it was more to the tune of "if you remove this that and this from your car how much performance would you gain?" the answer was as i maintain, not worth it because of the fact youd be losing so much conmfort ect, where as if you added 100bhp it would be a bigger benefit, (so yes i do remember what you started on in the mass debate ;))

of course the less weight you have in car the better and of course Kyosho would tell you that (why wouldent they its a great selling point) Just as mine are - ALum - lighter carry more water - ect, far better than the original rad Craig made out of Copper and for roughly the same price at the time (SA exhcange rate has gone wonky lol)

A few points on your obviouse paranoid obsession with Mass.Could it be true that you have a slimmed down streamlined, well defined fat free body of a gazzel or a lardy undefined possibly over weight one? When you drive your Zed are you head shaved, snot, earwax free and drained of all you bodily fluids.Do you lie awake thinking with your MASS reduced brain ways of trying to come up with an even more rediculus statment regarding your paronoid views that I dont think anybody really gives a stuff about.I for one think that if that pidgeon that must have kicked you in head at an early age had of had more MASS you would not still be around to plaque the world with your stupid theories...........Just my view.........Vinz

Hi Warren (& Craig?),

Can I ask about this group buy?

Do I understand this correctly? :-

A solid (no plastic ends) thicker Ali radiator - just water cooling (e.g. larger Manual spec - not split oil/water for an Auto)?

If I understand this correctly, can I put my name forward, or am I too late to be included?

Thanks, Geoff
