How much to rebuild a gearbox then?

Silly me, syncro has gone on 4th, not the end of the world but perhaps a long term project

i think around 400 pounds i was quoted to redo my box recently plus labour.

But it would take probably a good 9 months at said company lmao, so i guess ill have to look around.

keep us posted if you find a place, as i woudl like to redo my whole gearbox next, (then its all done lol)

I live near to Southampton and made enquiries today about having my 5sp manual box rebuilt through STS at Southampton. They quoted me nearly 900 quid for a full rebuild. I think I'll look for a cheaper alternative!.

Have you tried Hiteq in Wigan. I know its a long way but if its cheaper.

How much did they quote?

can you buy a kit with bearings/syncros etc. and do it yourself?

if its only the syncro thats gone, then these are usually quite cheap - cost is in the labour to strip & rebuild. never done a zed, but used to do veedub box rebuilds & fiat/lancia in the past. syncros, bearings, shift levers etc which are the usual wearing parts are generally inexpensive, gears if damaged start to get a bit more expensive & if one of the shafts has gone west then things can start to get really costly. IME

Mine has just started to whine a little...not sure if its prop centre bearing or box....an investigation will tell me. But I'll try this place in Wigan and see what they come up with.
