Mine is a jap import and came with 4 225 tyres on 8 half inch rims. Anyone else got the same or have all you chaps got 245's on the rear???

Featured Replies

Japanese import: 225s all round

UK spec: 225 front , 245 rear

Sounds like the previous owner of your car was a either a cheap skate or a little confussed.

Standard Jap import with stock wheels should be front 225/50 ZR16 and back 245/45 ZR16.

Unless I am very mistaken - I wanted to add this but I still can't edit. Have to wait until craig sets me up :(

It dose seem to donut well, with the smoke and the tyre marks and the small amount of revs.

Reason for that is the UK has 8,1/2" rears and the import has 7,1/2";)

It seems odd that an import would have four 8.5" rims - I'd double check that if I were you.

Incidentally, one of the tricks they often use is to space out the rear 7.5" rims to make them look like the 8.5" from the outside. Never seen a car get over here like that, so maybe those parts are sold on in Japan before export.

Hmm must save for wheels and boost controller and a snopper and ah. anyone need the services of an IT bod who only wants a mill a year?

Yup, ya get strange stuff on Jap imports. The first ZX I bought had the standard 16" rims, but with 235 section rubber all round, and in addition, a different make of tyre on each corner!?!? (each one formulated from a cunning blend of concrete and banana skins:eek: )

I have a 90 Jap inport which has stock wheels.

245/45 ZR16 on back and 225/50 ZR16 on the fronts.

All I can say is the previous owner must have swaped the backs for UK stock. Top Bloke !

I have a Jap Import '92.

Its has 245 rear, 225 Front on 17" Split Rims (that look like they've been cleaned with a band saw)

Dan

p.s I have about a 1Cm gap between the rear tyres and exhaust pipe........

Well that's stock (UK) sized tyres, do you also have UK spec rear wheels. They're easy to spot because you can clearly see the bracing in the casting through the slots.

I have a 91 Jap, sorry JSpec, 300 TT. Last time i had all my wheels off i made a point of whipping out my 12 incher (ruler) and measuring all the rims. Front and back are all 8.5 inch but with 225/50 at front and 245's on rear. Now i'm dangerously confused!

Hi,

You don't actually need to measure the rim width as it's indicated on the outside of the wheel in small lettering.

The contact patch difference between 225s and 245s is actually quite small, plus 245s will fit on the 7.5" rims with no trouble.

JEZ

That if you go to a tyre shop and say "Four tyres for that please mate", he'll look up "Nissan 300ZX" in his book and it'll say "225/50R16 front, 245/45R16 rear", because the book is for UK cars, and he'll slap them on the wheels regardless of the size of the rim..

I had to argue my point for a good few minutes the first time I got tyres that Japanese imports have narrower rears and don't match the book that's written for UK cars..

Oh yeah - the part number of the wheels also gives away their size.. If you have only two different part numbers (for left and right), you're on four 7.5J wheels, different part numbers for left & right as well as front & rear, and you have 7.5J and 8.5J wheels.

My non turbo JSpec has 225 all round, I thought that that was one of the differences between the normally aspirated (225) and the Turbo (245).
