LMAO I know :D

Why? Coz I don't own one and they look nice and never having owned one I believe that they are more reliable than the Shed-X! ROFLMFAO :D

Fight Club anyone? :D

;)

I voted Supra, i reckon they look way better than the zed.

I wouldnt really class any of those as a 'sports' car, more of a jap supercar IMO, sports cars spell MX5 etc.... In that league i would have to say the Honda S2000 is very nice

NSX (best looking Jap car ever--- comon Waz!)

Datsun 240Z (purist)

Nissan 300zx (still love em looks)

Toyota Celica/Supra 2.8i (aggression)

Nissan Figaro (wacky)

Duoh lol i knew i had forgotten one/

it actually goes without saying the Honda is the best looking, but then its in a different price tag.

Honda 2000 very nice.

What about Mitsi 3000GT? - I've always had a bit of a soft spot for these ... especially the earlier version with the pop-up lights

I'd hope to see the ZX at the top of the poll (as it is) - I can honestly say that when they started coming out in the late 80's early 90's it's the one I always wanted.

Maybe I'm biased, since I wanted a 240/260 since I was 4! (1975) - still love all the Zs (although not so sure about Z31:eek: )

John.

i quite like the Toyota Motorsport Supercharged IS200/Altezza in a 30-something sort of way...

I dont particulaly think that the R33 is stunning looking, the R34 is infinitely better done and the R32 is more pure.

Still its what GT-R's do not how they look, just aswell as the most of em look like mondeos anyway.

Still the Audi TT is a pretty enough car hehe :/

I quite enjoy Yanking my muscle too Warren, thanks for asking! though that probably belongs in a 'Does owning a Skyline turn you in a W*nker?' Poll ..

LOL ;)

Supra...Frog with a fat arse stock but awesome with veilside kit

RX 7...Wierd not pretty

R34...The ultimate on the list but a bit too square, R33 bit nicer curves

NSX...best looking but not on the vote.

So its the good old Z32 again for me :d

all in my opinion of course (we are still allowed opinions arn't we ;) )

Paul

I voted for the Z32 300ZX, as it was a major change in styling for the japanese sports car market.

Before the Z32 300ZX every japanese sportscar was styled in Japan and had pop up lights(which I think places cars in the 80's):

Z31 300ZX pop ups

MkIII Toyota Supra pop ups

Savanna and FD Mazda RX7 pop ups

(Skyline excluded as it became a super car in the R32 stage)

The NSX has only just been remodeled without pop up lights! I thought the old one really set itself in the 1989/1990's!

1NSX.jpg

latest NSX

The 3rd Gen RX7's have had an aftermarket modification to fit non pop up lights for ages and I think it looks alot better

rotormortsports_1707_1005624

3rd gen Rex with East Bear Conversion

I think the MKIV Supra went a bit too far with the "googley eyes" look hence why some US and JDM MKIV's have plastic "eyebrows" stuck on Halfords style! (jus kidding supra guys - but you must have seen em! :D )

The Z32 made the departure from pop ups and Nissan went to great trouble to produce the slimmest lights possible(with projector style lenses) for what the technology allowed in the late 80's.

The Z32 lights are still some of the slimmest fixed light setup's out there - which may explain why they were a natural choice for the later model Lamborghini Diablo.

Away from headlights now... :)

In the late 80's you could group together the MKIII Supra, Z31 300ZX and RX7 Savanna and they would all lookalike(thought the RX7 had less hard edges).

During the Z32 design stage Nissan took styling influance(sp?) from Nissan US hence its radical "non Japanese look" for the time, if you understand what I mean.

After the Z32 300ZX all the other Japanese Manufactures started producing better looking curves, but some went a bit too curvy and all "whooshy" just for the sake of it - which is why the styling of the MKIV Supra doesnt appeal to me, as I belive it's a very dated styling look that places the MKIV in the mid 90's. Not a timeless design in my eyes.

I would say the same for the other "post 90's" japanese sports/supercars;

1990+ Mitsub GTO/Stealth: dated, hence redesign:

ttfront.jpg

Note no pop up lights anymore! :D

1990+ Honda NSX: Dated, hence smoother redesign

Mazda RX7 3rd Gen: Nice looking I must admit but still sets itself in the mid 90's.

Toyota MKIV Supra: As previous comments :D

Nissan Z32 300ZX: Classic curves, some dated elements but an overall timeless design (wow, how unbiased am I!)

Some interesting Japanese designs from the past; Nissan Figaro, Nissan S-cargo, Mazda AZ1(want one!), Suzuki cappuccino, Toyota Sera(but only really because of the doors) and others that I cant remember the names of.

The future? well looking at the 350Z, while nice in design, manufactures seem to be following in the big headlight look of the Civic/Focus school of styling - crap I'm back on the headlights again, I'll get my coat... :D

Another unbiased viewpoint here.... :D

The Supra looks "overbodied" as standard (although it does look awesome with some changes), and has an incredibly dull interior and a much less involving driving experience.

The RX7 is flawed by its diminutive size - could hardly fit in one I tried the roof was so low!!

The Skyline R34 is an incredible looking car, every inch of it looking as aggressive as anything seen on the roads and is a fantastic trackday tool - but it's not beautiful. (although I still want one next!)

The 300ZX has some timeless elegance, there are aspects of the car that are just not repeated on anything else. It's a great driving tool and above all, looks different to the usual japanese offerings.

There are however some elements that look very much out of place in the 21st century (IMO). The rear lights being one. Too 80's/90's american for my tastes - like off the back of a Buick or something - they look good at night but make me reverse park into spaces everywhere in daylight. That's why mine are getting changed for the circular bad boys. Circular lights are timeless. The 355 / GTR thing just seems to complement the other parts of the car that are absolutely spot on, and will remain that way for many years.

imho - I don't like the circular lights people put on 300's because they are too small - they are not in balance with the car -they make it look like a Fiat/Vauxhall FFS !. I like the circular rear lights on Corvettes, because they are BIG !

I think the stock rear lights on a 300 look cool, esp. at night.

The only part of the Z32 that I've never really liked much was the rear lights downwards. The std spoiler is fine, but the lights I'm just not sure of, but I haven't seen any of the mods I like better, but the big fat bumber - never really been a fan of that.

It would be interesting to see a photoshop mock-up of a more modern TVR-style undercut rear end (Griff style perhaps) grafted onto a Zed. Anyone ?

I suspect the rear bumper helps aerodynamics, but I may be wrong !

300ZX rule obviously !!!!!!!

Credit due to the RX7 though, very nice.

Glen you're back! I've been turned 360 three degrees in an Asda car park with me old mate Johnny boy doing donuts but being turned in a Wonker Poll??? Explain??? FFS! Pissing myself this end! :D :D

Whereas you would say to me take a valium and chill I now put it to you that you should stay off the fcukers mate! :D ;)

I agree with the back lights. The, to me, seem a little long, but its unique. I have had people say you can see my car a mile off at night cos you can see the rear lights.

As for the shape of the body, its all swings and roundabouts. It always comes back round again. In the late 60's early 70's car manufacuters started making cars with more curve. Z240, Porsche 911, E-Type Jag, Lamborghini Miura, Ferrari Ferrari 365 & 246. Then in the 80's cars went back to being angular and then again in the 90's cars went curvy again, but too curvey. They had curves for the sake of having curves, there where no need for them in the places they where. Now cars are going anglular again, or slighly curvy with strong seams. Ie, doors seams are not tried to be hidden but are in fact a part of the style of the door, pannels have not been tried to blend in with the rest of the car, and that is why I think the ZX is still doing so well with looks now, personally.

Look at the front wing, it curves round and over the wheel, its a curve that is needed. The little dink of a wheel arch they have now where is comes out at nearly 90º would not work becuase it so large. But. look at the join of it at the front and near the door. Its not just a line, its shaped. As with the the other end, it acutally goes up the A-Pillar slightly giving it an over lap look.

Look at the rear spoiler. They could have made it so the spoiler and boot was one piece and you could hardly see the join, but they wanted it in two and the obvilous line where the spoiler is and how it joins the obvious, even highlighed (The black rubber strip) boot line is so simple its beautiful.

The Z32 has natural curves with strong enhancing lines, which for me means it will stay one of the most beautiful looking cars in the world for time to come. It will never go out of date, because it has never been completely in date. It was designed in the early-mid 80's and released in 1988. Yes 12 where released at the time when Cher won an Oscar, Rick Astley got to Nº1 with Never Gonna Give You Up, and Wimbledon beat Liverpool 1-0 in the FA cup final.

Then cars where square, didnt fit in but didnt look out of place. The 90's cars where super curvey, again the Z32 didnt fit in but didnt look out of place. Now cars have gone for strong lines, once again the Z32 doesnt fit in but doesnt look out of place.

You could compare the Z32 to pop music. All the new cars are like the latest thing. Look and sound good at first, but then every thing starts looking and sounding the same, it dies out and even becomes embarrasing. The Z32 is like Elton John, Phil Collins (I appologies if you dont like them but its an example ;)) Popular when they first came out and every few years, said to make a come back. But the real truth is the they never left. ;)

The Z32 was popular when I came out and it seems to have a come back every few years. But the truth is, they have always been on the road, it only when all the new "sports cars" the same do people notice the Z.

As for the popup lights thing. I drove a MR-2 round the block to park it once and I put the lights on. It look stupid. Having a nice smooth bonnet and then have these 2 huge squares pop up.

As for the Supra, take that wing off and the car looks really really really really dull. Sorry for any Supra owners, as you know its my personal opinion.

Skylines, I love the R-34 and I dont know why people dont. Its the best looking one. However the R-33 R-32 dont look anything special, hence thats why I think the R-34 has a stonger look. If you didnt know what to look for, from some angles, the Skyline looks like a normal car. From the back its impossible not to notice unless you cant read font size 300 text from a few feet away ;).

Enough from me I have babbled on enough. As usual ;)

Bye

Stuart

Couldnt fit in a RX, I agree the Skyline 34 looks very aggressive but still looks like an Essex thing! ZX wins hands down its classy, Supra is just Assy!!

I see the Z is waaay out in front. Not surprising on a Z forum!

But Trey is talking sense. The Z was and still is an awesome looking car. inside looks a bit dated now, but with a few simple mods the exterior can look as good as anything on the road. I can't say that any other car beats a well turned out Z. And there are some fancy cars out there but the Z can still hold its own. It's a classic in the making....don't sell.

In my company carpark there are M3s and XJRs and Audi TTs and stuff. The old Z still makes em look!!!
