Uprated alternator

Does anyone know if anyone makes such a thing with an aplication to fit the 300. Can remember some articles from years ago featuring a unit in an old edition of Max Power (from the early days, before it became one big advert rag). At the time it was seen as the alternative to twin battery installs. Anyway, answer apreciated as I think my alternator is faulty. Gonna try cleaning contacts tonight but would like to pursue this idea for a later planned ICE install.

Cheers peeps!

LOL

:o

And all these years, my cars been running on AA batteries! :)

The one that charges the battery? On the end of a piece of wire connected to the battery with a rubber loop going round it, the water pump, and the crank pulley??? I think you'll find it there LOL!!!

As far as I know the Zed alternator is VERY strong - it has to be for all the electrics. I don't know of any uprated models out there but I'm sure there will be ones that fit if you really want to upgrade...

Gettin the standard alternator re-wound is also an option - often the problem with changing it for a larger model is the work involved welding in a bigger mounting bracket for it (if it fits at all)

Whereas if the standard one is re-wound to a higher rating then you'll have no worries getting it back on.

However, finding someone to re-wind it is a problem, as I'm finding out at the moment.

Was'nt quite sure what Jez was on about, Hey hum. Confidence in the original component has been restored, guess mine is just on ots way to the great maker. How hard is this to reach, might just try giving it a good clean for now, check contacts etc.

Shall I start again... no no no...

There are some upgrades I've read about, like the one from streetwires , but I bet it's expesive.

If your wanting an upgrade to keep the power going for a big amp then a 1 farad capacitor usually helps... (and uprated battery) ...

Anyhow, back to the alternator, a long long time ago I remember reading in the service manual that you can repair/replace the alternator if your have the time and are capable. Ie, the brushes can be replaced. Personally, I'd just get a new stock one...

Jez.

Jez - were you possibly talking about a DISTRIBUTOR??? LOL

CheerZ,

Andy

until the next installment...!!!
