Im looking into donating blood. Just wandered if anyone on here does the same and have an insight into it? How often do you give blood etc :)

I have done it a couple of times and wish I could do it more often but there are not many drop in sessions near us that I get to know about. You give blood as often as you want and it is very easy and doesn't hurt. You even get a free cup of tea and biscuit afterwards.

One thing I would say is make sure you have eaten something beforehand. I went once having not eaten for 5 hours and felt a bit funny after, a snickers bar later I was fine though.

Definitely recommend everyone to do it.

not quite as often as you like... they do an iron check and if you give too often it could show as low ... so I'd say one a month would be a good show.

My wife was a regular and she was told that if she showed as having low iron it would be three strikes and you're out... i.e. taken off the register.

Fairly Regular, although not for a while now as I've been working away a lot, so need to chase them up!

Normally they give you appointments every 8- 12 weeks if i recall, as they prefer to allow you time to re-build what you've given, so so only around 4 or 5 times a year. I normally donate Saturday Mornings and opt for the early slots so I'm in and out in an hour or so. Everyone who is healthy should do it, you never know when you might need it yourself and is a really easy way to give something back

4 times a year is the norm I believe ?

Although if you have the rare stuff, they put you on a register for emergencies ?

Actually have my diamond award for over 100 pints. Havent donated for a while now as the tablets I am on strike me out. Game over !

Do it if you're able to, you never know one day you might be in need of it yourself
