Just taking my daughter to school and went to change gear and was met with a very wobbly gear stick like the linkage was undone, managed to limp the car up to my daughters school then back to my old flats, the linkage has failed on the u joint between the gear box and gear leaver how can this be fixed ?

has the pin broken between the joints?

I have the ability to use 3rd and 4th with a bit of inginuity but no reverse as I have no twist motion

 

Anyone have a write up on how to change the striking rod?

There's one on the US forum.

I'm on my phone which is a pain, otherwise I would find it for you.

From looking at the service manual there are 2 pins that need to be knocked out to get the striking rod out, not sure if this can be done with gearbox in the car still or if im going to need to remove the gear box from the car to get better access / view

Two pins one fitted inside the other, knock out the centre one first.

Is that accessible with gearbox dropped slightly, out or can it be done in situe?

I'm thinking it would be better done with gearbox off the car, if you drop those pins in the gear box it's going to have to come off anyway

If you need to take the box off anyway then fair enough, but i would try first, if you are lucky enough not to drop the pins then less work lol
